Dancing on Ice makes history with major format change to final after 18 years

Dancing on Ice is set to undergo a major shake-up during the final.

For the first time in the ITV show’s 18-year history, four celebrities will make it through to the final as opposed to three. The five stars left in the competition are Amber Davies, Greg Rutherford, Adele Roberts, Ryan Thomas and Miles Nazaire.

This means only one of them will miss out on the chance to skate in the final of the 2024 series. It comes after the family show was slapped with Ofcom complaints after the cast of Magic Mike put on a racy performance.

86 viewers lodged complaints were lodged to the broadcasting watchdog after Sunday night’s (February 25) show. The raunchy routine featured a number of shirtless men performing suggestive and seductive moves on stage.

A representative for Ofcom said: “The complaints related to a Magic Mike themed performance being broadcast before the watershed.” At the end of Sunday’s show, Eddie ‘The Eagle’ Edwards was given the boot alongside his partner Vicky Ogden.

The 60-year-old ski jumper found himself in the bottom two for the first time alongside Love Island star Amber Davies. After a tense skate-off, only Oti Mabuse voted in favour of saving Eddie.

Fans were furious at the result and headed straight to social media to brand the show a “fix”. One fumed: “It’s a con, Amber fluffed up at the end and did not skate on her own, and Chris saw it clearly, Eddie was robbed he was the better skater, plus he had to lift his partner. The competition is rigged. Unfair elimination.”

“Absolute disgrace, thats me not watching any more, fix,” agreed a second. Another echoed: “Nonsense decision, Eddie is by far a better individual skater than Amber, he should have gone through based purely on skating.”

Many said they felt Amber didn’t skate alone as much as she needed to. “Thought Dancing On Ice was a skating competition?!” one asked. “Clearly rigged!!! Eddie solo skates, Amber’s carried around the ice and the 3 seconds she did skate on her own – wobbly as!”
