EastEnders’ Brian Conley teases return to soap with prison ‘clue’ months after exit

EastEnders star Brian Conley seemed to suggest he could return to the BBC soap after his character Rocky Cotton was thrown into prison.

The 62-year-old joined the show in 2021 and has been a part of several hard-hitting and comical storylines since his time in Albert Square. Last year, Rocky’s character had viewers glued to their screens when his gambling addiction spiralled out of control.

Things became so bad for Rocky that he ended up burning down his wife Kathy’s cafe to hopefully achieve an insurance payout. But unfortunately, Rocky’s mischievous plan backfired.

Following on from this, Rocky began to grow suspicious of Kathy and her involvement in Keanu Taylor’s death which took place on Christmas Day at the Queen Vic. But with Rocky on the prowl to uncover the truth, the other five women involved in Keanu’s unexpcted murder encouraged Kathy to grass on Rocky to the police.

On December 29, Rocky’s final scenes aired which saw him saying his final goodbyes to Kathy. But despite Rocky being banged up for the foreseeable, actor Brian teased his possible return to the soap.

Speaking to the Swindon Advertiser, he said: “Playing Rocky was nerve-wracking at first because the show is so iconic and I look back with very fond memories. I am in prison so I haven’t died and that’s a nice thought and I could get off with good behaviour.”

Brian’s daughter Lucy, 21, who he shares with his wife Anne-Marie Conley, also took part in the interview too and admitted she loved seeing her father on the iconic show – for the most part. She confessed: “I found it so weird seeing him drink a pint, he stopped drinking when I was two, and also seeing him with someone who isn’t mum.”

Brian, who previously hosted his very own show from 1992-2002 also said that on-screen kisses were “weird” even though he got on so well with Gillian Taylforth, who plays the iconic role of Kathy. In addition to this, the star also confessed that he used to hate the non-alcoholic beer he had to drink on the show as it was very salty.

Brian has been booked and busy since he departed from the BBC soap. He is now on the road with his show, The 3rd Farewell Tour, and admitted it was projects like the ones he’s involved in that encouraged him to leave EastEnders.
