EastEnders legend makes major BBC comeback after quitting TV for over a decade

EastEnders legend who took a 13-year break from TV is now readying for a major return to screens.

Sean Maguire, who is best known for his alter-ego role on Albert Square as drug addict Aidan Brosnan, is about to grace TV screens once again after quitting TV for over a decade. While he won’t be returning to his former 1993 role on the soap he does have another great drama lined up.

The 47-year-old will once again be reprising his role in Death In Paradise, as Marlon Collins as the production returns for the 13th series. Sean is no stranger to the cast, after he made it onto the show when it first debuted in 2011, playing the same character.

Death In Paradise has seen quite a lot of success in recent times and is on its way to airing 100 episodes, with Sean getting to play his part, as crew and cast reach an all-important milestone together in the show’s history. The actor realises how lucky he is to be part of the process and wants to tell his fans all about it.

On Wednesday 24 January, Sean told his followers: “I was lucky enough to be in the very first episode of #DeathInParadise. Now 12 years have passed & I was delighted to be asked back and appear in the 100th episode alongside the legend that is Don Warrington & a fab cast.”

Drumming up support and viewers, he signed off with: “Such a fun job. Airs BBC 1 feb 4th 9pm don’t miss it.” To which the star was met with lots of brimming praise in the comments section.

Towards the end of last year, the BBC confirmed that because of Death In Paradise’s success, there would be a spin-off series called Return To Paradise. The British-French smash hit Caribbean crime drama is produced by Red Planet Pictures and is set to return to BBC One and BBC iPlayer on Sunday 4 February.

Returning cast members include Royal Family star Ralf Little who plays DI Neville Parker, Don Warrington as Commissioner Selwyn Patterson, Shantol Jackson as DS Naomi Thomas and Tahj Miles as Officer Marlon Pryce as they face the joys and difficulties of island life along with a number of murder cases to crack.

Sean shot to fame on Grange Hill, before he accepted the role of the troubled Aidan Brosnan on Eastenders. He wasn’t on the soap for long, with his character Aidan fleeing Walford in the hope of reconnecting with his parents after being homeless and suffering from depression.

Away from TV screens, Sean is married to wife Tanya, with the pair tying the knot back in 2012. They share three children – two sons, Flynn Patrick, six, and Leo James, three, and a daughter Amèlie Rose, five months.
