EastEnders to welcome huge pop star in new role as surprise proposal revealed

EastEnders is set to roll out the red carpet for a Eurovision sensation in an upcoming episode that’s got fans buzzing with excitement.

The soap will see award-winning singer and actor Olly Alexander drop by Albert Square for a surprise visit. The highly-anticipated scenes will show the hitmaker, 33, swinging by the iconic Queen Vic for a cheeky pint after some intense rehearsals nearby.

The chart-topper, who’s gearing up to fly the flag for the UK at Eurovision 2024, will be catching up with his old mate Johnny Carter, played by the talented Charlie Suff. The locals will be sure to give him a proper East End welcome as he gears up for his big Eurovision performance of the banger ‘Dizzy’, reports the Mirror.

Talking about his soap debut, Olly gushed: “I’m thrilled to be making my first appearance on EastEnders and in the most iconic pub in the UK. I’m so happy I got to meet some true screen legends and spend time on set with the brilliant cast and crew.

“I wanted to surprise my mum as it’s her favourite show but I guess the cat is out of the bag now, she’s gonna love it! “. Executive Producer, Chris Clenshaw, said: “When we discovered that Olly Alexander was a huge fan of the show and an opportunity arose in one of our stories, it was the perfect moment for us to invite him to Albert Square to appear.

“We hope the audience enjoy Olly’s special guest-appearance as much as everyone at EastEnders enjoyed having him in Walford.” On Wednesday (April 24), the singer appeared on BBC Breakfast to talk more about his new role where he begged BBC bosses to ask him back again in the future.

He revealed: “Oh my God, I’m going to be in EastEnders, I did a little cameo in EastEnders. That was one of the best days of my life with Natalie Cassidy and so many icons, and I’m going to be in the Queen Vic for a little cameo.

“I can’t believe it actually, I hope they ask me back. I feel like I could get some quite exciting and dramatic storylines as a permanent character.

“You never know! I was so happy, it was really just a great day. I’m playing myself which is also quite confusing,” he added.

EastEnders is no stranger to Eurovision-themed antics, and last year they roped in Eurovision legend Cheryl Baker for a cameo.

The Bucks Fizz superstar, 70, popped up in The Prince Albert pub as the Walford crew celebrated the Eurovision Song Contest 2023. Cheryl, who shot to stardom with her bandmates in The Fizz, previously known as Bucks Fizz, after bagging the Eurovision trophy in 1981.

She graced the soap in a special episode. She appeared as herself during a bash thrown for Kathy Beale’s birthday.
