Elisabeth Moss’ father Ron Moss dies aged 79 after short illness as family pay tribute

Elisabeth Moss’ father Ron Moss has reportedly died after a “brief battle with an infection”.

The Handmaid’s Tale actress’ father reportedly died ‘peacefully’ surrounded by family on Thursday night (January 18) in Clearwater, Florida. His passing was confirmed by his grandson Max, the executor of his estate.

In a tribute obtained by TMZ, Max wrote of his grandfather’s passing: “Ron made so many friends throughout his rich life and we want everyone to know that you all meant so much to him. Thank you for everything that any of you did for him throughout his life.”

Although born and raised in the UK, Ron and his ex-wife Linda raised Elisabeth and her brother Derek in the United States. He was a professional musician and trained trombone player who played in jazz bands for years.

Ron was also a scientologist like his 41-year-old daughter Elisabeth. He played gigs with Scientology leader David Miscavige.

He also served as a manager for the likes of American jazz pianist and composer Chick Corea, who is The Handmaid Tale star’s godfather, and American singer-songwriter Isaac Hayes.

Elisabeth previously defended Scientology, insisting the religion is “misunderstood”. She told The New Yorker: “It’s not really a closed-off religion.

“It’s a place that is very open to, like, welcoming in somebody who wants to learn more about it. I think that’s the thing that is probably the most misunderstood.”

“If you and I met, just hanging out as friends, I’m, like, an open book about it.” She added: “I don’t want people to be distracted by something when they’re watching me.

“I want them to be seeing the character. I feel like, when actors reveal too much of their lives, I’m sometimes watching something and I’m going, Oh, I know that she just broke up with that person, or, I know that she loves to do hot yoga, or whatever it is.”
