Emily Makis talks ‘My Type’ and gushes over famous singer she dubs ‘phenomenal’

Singer-songwriter Emily Makis exclusively reveals the true inspiration behind her new song ‘My Type’.

If you’re a keen drum and bass fan, you won’t get far without hearing Emily on a track. Known for bangers such Phoneline and High Note, Emily has been cruising her way through the genre – popping up here, there and everywhere, whether it’s on a new collab or on a festival lineup.

To celebrate the release of her new song ‘My Type’, we sat down with the singer to find out what her new summer-ready banger is all about (and exactly what the lyrics “I want a Big Mac, no Mullеr Light” really means…).

Talking about the inspiration behind her song, Emily said: “I like people with flavour and I just felt like a Big Mac is bursting with flavour. Whereas, a Muller Light, is like a yoghurt that doesn’t really have much flavour. It basically means I don’t need anyone to be really ‘fit’ necessarily. They just have to be a big man, a boss, and bring the right energy.”

Dnb listeners will be thrilled to hear it’s not the only track she will be shelling out on stage this year as she has a dance-floor filler release pending. And she promises it will be a certified “crowd pleaser”.

The talented vocalist also can’t wait to get back on stage and will be performing all summer long, including at Hospitality on the Beach. The beachside event will be taking place in Tisno, Croatia, 2-9 July.

However, this won’t be her first rodeo at the festival and described the show as a “drum and bass paradise”. Emily added: “It’s so good. When I was performing last time, I could see people listening whilst they were lounging in the sand and going for a swim. It’s just a nice break from reality and somewhere you can listen to good music, in the sun, whilst having a little tipple.”

The star also opened up about one of her major career highlights which was writing ‘Disconnect’ with Becky Hill and Chase and Status. Emily described Becky as an “incredible force” and shared her admiration for the star.

Speaking about Becky, she said: “She’s an absolutely incredible force and talent. I’ve never heard anyone like her in the studio, she can deliver lyrics and a vocal that is perfect on the first take.

“She just deserves everything that she has at the moment. I get the feeling that she doesn’t really like to be complimented like that, but I actually don’t care. She’s phenomenal.”

Emily also shared her future dream collabs after already working with Dnb royalty such as Monrroe, K Motionz and Freaks and Geeks. But confessed to shooting for the stars as she named her dream acts to follow this up

She revealed: “If I could get anyone to sing one of my songs, it would have to be Beyonce. Producer-wise, Calvin Harris, for sure, I love his journey and everything he’s about. Also, Chase and Status, they’re just so cool and they make some tasty music. So, I’d love to make that happen.”
