Former GMB star quits GB News just months after joining after sharing cryptic message

Former Good Morning Britain star Pip Tomson has waved goodbye to GB News just months after joining the channel.

Pip left fans puzzled with a cryptic tweet as she took to X (formerly Twitter) on Sunday (April 28) to drop the bombshell news. In a mysterious message, she penned: “UPDATE FROM ME I have left GB News. I will decompress now [and] map out life’s next crazy adventures.”

Accompanying her announcement was a clip of her co-hosting the GB News breakfast show alongside Michael Portillo, which led to an outpouring of support from her fanbase. Supporters chimed in with messages including, “Good luck in whatever you’re gonna do or wherever you’re going Pip,” and: “Rest well Pip, wishing you all the best for whatever comes next.”

Meanwhile, others were flabbergasted by her departure, with one tweeting, “Oh no! They have lost another star, Pip. What on earth are @GBNEWS doing, that they are haemorrhaging their brightest talent in this way?” and another urging: “Please come back to ITV and GMB,” reports the Mirror.

Before jumping ship to GB News, Pip had a solid stint at ITV, clocking in time at GMTV in 2009, Daybreak in 2010, and joining the Good Morning Britain squad in 2013. After a decade with GMB, she made the switch to GB News and didn’t hold back on her thoughts about “intolerant people” when announcing her new gig.

She penned: “Here I am. A presenter and journalist – now at GB News – who’s relishing the opportunity to challenge and hold to account the powerful types and offer a voice to those who want to be heard but are thoroughly disillusioned so don’t bother to engage.”

“I want to help change that and redress the balance, without fear or favour. I’m a people person which is why I became a journalist in the first place.”

Pip slammed her detractors for their hypocrisy, despite GB News’ reputation as a divisive outlet. She went on: “I was also well aware of the flak directed at GB News. Much of it from those types who profess that they’re tolerant members of the ‘Be Kind’ brigade (yawn) but are actually some of the most intolerant people you could ever hope to meet if you don’t profess to share their views.”

Delving deeper into her motivations, she revealed: “I sought out the advice of some of the less tribal folk including one of the most famous broadcasters in the business. I don’t want to name them but they’ve always been incredibly generous in terms of advice, feedback, reflections on the industry and how to deal with those delightful social media trolls.

“‘It’s a no brainer,’ came the answer. ‘You’ve got to do it. It’s very exciting for you and a proper adventure.'” Wrapping up her announcement, Pip expressed excitement about her new role co-hosting an afternoon programme after a decade of early starts on GMB.
