Good Morning Britain star Kate Garraway hit back at trolls who complained about her TV return.
The presenter, 56, returned to GMB on Thursday (February 8) for the first time since her husband Derek Draper passed away. Derek died aged 56 on January 3 following several years of serious health complications due to Covid-19.
During Friday’s show (February 9), the broadcaster addressed some backlash she received on social media for laughing during an interview. During a chat with Larry Lamb and Claire Collins about Marie Curie’s upcoming Day of Reflection, Kate reflected on the comments aimed at her.

She said: “I got a bit of flack on social media yesterday of laughing with you as though that would imply I didn’t care. But, when you’re laughing, you’re laughing because you want the joy that that person brought to continue all around.”

Kate added: “People watching at home have got troubles in their life and you want to share that joy with them. So it’s a licence to laugh and to cry and to be all of these things.”
The mum-of-two’s return marked nearly two months since she’d been in the ITV studio. Upon her return to work, Kate admitted to co-host Ben Shephard that it felt strange to be back.

She shared: “I feel very weird, the makeup girls had me in tears this morning just by saying, ‘Hello’. I’ve got some lovely hugs from everybody already. Nobody hug me, nobody be nice to me! That’s what I say.”
Kate went on to thank fans for their support, saying: “Thank you to all of you at home as well, I know I mentioned it Monday but you have been incredible.” The Tipping Point presenter promised to go easy on Kate before praising her for the “extraordinary funeral” she had for Derek.

He said, “You really did Derek proud, it was an extraordinary thing,” to which Kate responded, “I definitely wanted to make it about Derek not about me. It was really lovely as well to feel so much love from everybody here.”
Despite the backlash, other viewers praised Kate for her strength and welcomed her back with open arms. One wrote: “What a strong woman She is. Welcome back Kate.” Another said: “Welcome back Kate lovely to see you. Ben will look after you fantastic again to see you.” A third agreed: “Welcome back @kategarraway !!! . We have really missed you!”
