Greg Rutherford finally shares gruesome Dancing On Ice injury after early exit

Greg Rutherford, the sports star, has shared the gruesome details of his Dancing On Ice injury that led him to hospital for surgery.

Just a few days ago, the 37 year old posted a shocking video of the moment he got injured, forcing him to pull out of the ITV show’s final. In the clip, Greg is seen diving through a professional skater’s legs, which is when things took a turn for the worse. He captioned the video: “Here we gooooo. This is the showcase we didn’t get the perform due to injury.”

He added: “The point where I dive through Colin and Brendyn’s legs is where everything went wrong last Sunday. This is from either Friday or Saturday so I was still ironing out a few timings issues (which I’m sure you will notice).”

Later, on his Instagram Stories, the Olympian revealed that he “effectively gave [himself] a C-section’ after he tore his abs when he tried to skate through the legs of professional Colin Grafton.”

Addressing his fans, the Olympian said: “Today is surgery day. Loads of people have been asking ‘what happened? ‘ I’ve been a bit busy and obviously just recovering from the initial injury before I had the surgery that I hadn’t got round to talking about it. Long story short, I leapt through the legs of Colin and managed to tear all of my abs as well as herniate. So I effectively gave myself a C-section. So yes, it was horribly painful. It needs to be operated on today and then I’ll be properly on the mend. It was very painful, pretty horrible.”, reports the Mirror.

Greg’s wife, Susie, appeared in the video, making a lighthearted comment about her hubby’s injury being so severe it might have included his private parts. Greg also shared footage of the hazardous move that resulted in the unlucky incident which made him miss the Dancing On Ice final earlier this month.

Days after the misfortunate event, Greg confessed he was “not in a good way”. He was supposed to strut his stuff on skates during the final earlier, alongside professional skating partner Vanessa James, hoping to grab the 2024 champion title.

The competition would have been against celebs like Ryan Thomas, Adele Roberts, and Miles Nazaire. Nonetheless, just hours ahead of the major event, Vanessa, aged 36, took to Instagram sharing a snap announcing a trip to hospital following Greg’s injury during practice.

Vanessa wrote: “Unfortunately Greg has sustained a significant injury this morning at rehearsals and won’t be able to perform tonight. We are on our way to the hospital for Greg to get examined further and receive the treatment he needs.”

Later, Greg shared an update saying: “Good morning everyone. Just thought I’d give you a little update. I’m moving around a little bit better today which is nice. Loads of people are asking exactly what happened. I will be able to give a full rundown tomorrow. I’m seeing a specialist to figure out a plan of action and everything else.

“But my stomach is not in a good way and it’s going to need fixing. So that is what is going to be happening but I’ll give you a full rundown of everything when I know exactly what is happening. I’m trying as well not to take too much of the co-codamol I’ve been given because it makes me sleepy but my stomach is not in a good way.”
