Hollyoaks star breaks silence as she leaves Channel 4 soap after seven years

Hollyoaks star Haiesha Mistry has addressed her exit as Yazz Cunningham.

The 30-year-old actress made her exit departure from the village after finding out that her husband Tom Cunningham had pretended to be her to turn down a job in Canada, and told him she needed to leave and live her own life.

Now, in a lengthy post on her Instagram, Haiesha has reflected on her time as the character seven years after making her debut in the Channel 4 soap.

She began: “That’s a wrap! 2017-2024 7 years of Yazz Maalik/ Yazz Cunningham complete! Yazz you have been my pride and joy for the last 7 years. You’ve taught me so so much. I will never forget your sass! Especially in the last 2 episodes! Unmatched at every level! To the iconic beehive, all the creative hairstyles or the outfits that screamed sass, especially that ‘big bird’ yellow fluffy jacket! Our make up and costume ladies will know, the way I would go “OH HERE SHE IS, YAZZ IS HERE”, you brought so much life and served looks every damn time!”

“I’ve had so many incredible storylines over the years. Whether it’s the car crash stunt, school explosion, the tunnel of terror, the self harm storyline, Yazz’s deafness, the historical rape or the ectopic pregnancy storyline to name a few. Being on the show has taught me how important it is to tell stories and represent, especially that BROWN GIRL REPRESENTATION!.

“A big thank you to my Hollyoaks family. It has been an honour to work alongside you. @ellis_hollins it’s been a blast playing your ”wifey’! Big up the crew, who work tirelessly to bring the show to you. Legends in their own right. Big up our director @willthedirector for giving me the time and attention over my last episodes and giving Yazz the exit she deserves. I’m forever grateful for this show for so many things but the most, bringing me the Maaliks.

“To Harvey, @harveyvirdi1 I love you so much. You’re my inspiration. Thank you for showing us how it’s done. Learning from you on a daily was my favourite thing and moments I will never ever forget. Even the days we’d break out laughing between takes or have to stop because we were laughing too much. My favourite were always our Maalik days Your babies are flying now. Go and continue our Maalik legacy and continue making us proud.

“To the Hollyoaks fans, the best there is! Thank you for loving and hating on Yazz. When I got those reactions I knew I was doing my job right. It’s been a pleasure to keep you entertained. Being part of the Hollyoaks family is something I will cherish forever but as the saying goes, all good things have to come to an end. Peace out Yazz. Haiesha xxx.” Last week, it was announced that Hollyoaks would go down to three episodes a week and about a third of the soap’s staff members could be let go.

Hollyoaks airs weeknights on E4 at 7pm
