Hollywood pin-up Bridget Fonda now unrecognisable after ditching fame over horror injury

An iconic award-winning Hollywood pin-up looks unrecognisable years after ditching stardom following a horror injury

Bridget Fonda quit the industry in 2002 and hasn’t walked down a red carpet since 2010. Before her departure, she had won the hearts and minds of many with an impressive resume which included a Golden Globe-winning appearance in Scandal.

Her other films of note include Single White Female, Quentin Tarantino’s Jackie Brown, and Kiss of the Dragon. She was born into a family full of acting royalty including her father Peter Fonda, grandfather Henry Fonda, and aunt Jane Fonda.

Having kicked off her career at the age of five in 1969 in her dad’s cult movie, Easy Rider, it seemed she was destined to live her life on the silver screen.

However, her career came to an abrupt end after she was involved in a serious car crash in 2003, in which she fractured a vertebra.

Fonda had signed up for a recurring role on the legal drama series The Practice. Weeks before filming was due to begin, however, she was driving down the Pacific Coast Highway when her car lost control, flipped over an embankment and tumbled downhill.

She “miraculously” emerged, according to a Page Six article from the time, having suffered cuts and bruises, and her role in The Practice was recast.

In March of the same year, she became engaged to film composer and former Oingo Boingo frontman Danny Elfman and withdrew from acting to concentrate on family life.

The couple were married in November of that year and had a son together in 2005.

Her last official public appearance was in 2009, at the premiere of Tarantino’s Inglourious Basterds. Last year, however, she hit the headlines when she was photographed out in public for the first time in more than a decade.

The 59-year-old looked unrecognizable as she ran errands in Los Angeles. Once revered as one of the most glamorous women of the 1990s, Fonda opted to keep things casual during her outing, donning comfortable clothes and going makeup-free.

Her laidback look sparked a stir online, with many contrasting her appearance to how she appeared in her iconic roles.

During her rare public appearance Bridget was asked if she wanted to make a move back into Hollywood and she responded: “No”, according to the Daily Mail.

She further commented when questioned: “I don’t think so. It’s too nice being a civilian”.

Bridget was then asked whether there was any director who could potentially change her mind and again she replied: “No”.
