Love Island star forced to change stand-up routine after McDonald’s gag went ‘too far’

Love Island’s voiceover star Iain Stirling has been forced to amend his stand-up routine after one of his jokes was branded “sick”.

The 36-year old, who is married to the ITV show’s former host Laura Whitmore, embarks on a nationwide tour from tonight. One gag that has been cut from his set, however, relates to “scum” McDonald’s customers.

The offensive line saw Iain go on to label them “animals” before adding they “should have been wiped out by Covid”. He originally tested his new material at an intimate gig in Wandsworth, London last yet, which left the audience gasping in shock.

Iain’s lengthy joke about the fast food giant in full was: “The thing I missed the most about getting in shape is I can no longer go to McDonald’s because McDonald’s is my favourite place in the entire world.”

It continued: “It’s so good and it is so good for your self-esteem. If you’re feeling bad about yourself, just look at a family in a McDonald’s. Like every time you walk into McDonald’s, you open the door and go ‘Well I am better than all of you.

“Everyone in McDonalds is scum – even though I’m there for the same f***ing reason as the scum – they’re scumbags, animals. Animals in the McDonalds. These people, I don’t say this lightly, but these people should have been wiped out by Covid, right? The people who get to the front of the queue at McDonald’s and then they decide to start… looking at the menu!”

Iain reportedly held another warm-up show in Northampton earlier this month – with the line about ‘Covid’ omitted from the wisecrack. His move is likely to appease ITV bosses – as Love Island has been sponsored by fast food delivery firm Just Eat for several years and is McDonald’s delivery partner.

As well as his comedy and Love Island work, Iain also presents a true crime podcast alongside Laura. The married couple have also dabbled in one of his other hobbies – YouTube – though 38-year old Laura didn’t see the attraction.

He told us: “I have a YouTube channel but it’s very hobbyist – she’s done a few YouTube videos with me, made FIFA teams for me! It’s not really Laura’s bag.”

However, he admitted he’d love to get her back on board to film some gaming content. “I’d like to play some games with her!” he added. “I just love gaming, I genuinely do! But also, there’s a few things about gaming – it can be very expensive.”

Daily Star has approached a representative for Iain to comment.
