Netflix fans horrified by ‘unnecessary’ Prince Andrew nude bum flash in Scoop

Netflix viewers have been left disgusted by one royal nude scene.

During the on-screen moment which occurred in Scoop, Prince Andrew – played by Rufus Sewell – eagerly anticipates the broadcast of his Newsnight 2019 interview and decides to hop in the bath. After stripping naked, Andrew tries to kick back and relax but is distracted by his phone.

A notification noise begins to chime in the next room and much to many viewers’ horror, a shot of Andrews bare bottom is shown as he struts out of the room. After watching the Netflix special, which features Gillian Anderson as Emily Maitlis, fans flocked to social media to share their thoughts on the horrifying ordeal.

Over on X, formerly known as Twitter, one person wrote: “Did we really need to see Prince Andrew’s bare a***?” while another typed: “Rufus Sewell is very good: the writing is very self-regarding; showing Prince Andrew’s bum is very unnecessary.”

The scene showed Rufus in the bath

Since filming, Sewell confessed that he wore a prosthetic bottom for the role. The 56-year-old said: “Not that I’m ashamed of my own. I get it out whenever I get the chance! But this bum was specially shipped in.”

Rufus also addressed the role and admitted that he didn’t want to accept the job until he’d “worked on it by himself”. He explained: “I had an instinct about playing it, I felt there was something I thought I could bring to it, but I’m not someone who has a natural gift for mimicry.”

Fans were horrified at the image

The star said he “has a good ear” and “said yes because of instinct”. Other jaw-dropping scenes in Scoop include a pile of teddy bears on Prince Andrew’s bed that he allegedly used to keep in his bedroom.

The project follows the infamous 2019 interview

Scoop follows the story of Prince Andrew’s infamous Newsnight interview back in 2019, during which the royal tried to distance himself away from paedophile Jeffrey Epstein. Alongside Rufus and Gillian are Keeley Hawes, Romola Garai and Sex Education’s Connor Swindells.

Doctor Who icon Billie Piper also stars as Sam McAllister – the series was based on her book Scoops: Behind the Scenes of the BBC’s Most Shocking Interviews.
