Red, White and Royal Blue stars ‘always erect’ on set after bum slapping scenes

The cast of Red, White and Royal Blue were “always erect” on set, exposed in a hilarious blooper reel.

The 2023 Amazon Prime movie followed the ‘First Son’ of the United States, Alex Claremont-Diaz – played by Taylor Zakhar Perez – together with British Prince Henry (Nicholas Galitzine) for an epic star-crossed love story. With some epic snogging and sex scenes throughout, it’s hardly surprising that things got a little out of hand behind the scenes.

In a cheeky blooper reel shared by Prime Video, the stars can be kicking each other in the bums and blowing raspberries into each other’s necks during a very intense kissing scene. To get Perez off him during the impromptu raspberry, Galitzine ends up smacking him on his nearly naked rear, joking: “Go back to America!”

Things only get raunchier from there, as the pair accidentally roll off the bed from kissing so intently. At one point, the co-stars are sitting neatly on a bench on the Buckingham Palace set – so upright that Taylor reminds himself: “Always erect.” But fans might be disappointed to learn he’s referring to his straight-backed position rather than anything below the waist.

But in the background, the director can be heard yelling: “All right, settle, settle!” – reminding his cast they have a job to be doing in among the saucy interruptions.

Director Matthew Lopez previously told Gay Times that he wanted to show exactly how two men have sex with each other. He explained: “I was very clear with the producers from the beginning that we’re not going to shy away from depicting how two men have sex with each other. But, we’re also going to make sure that we never lose sight of the fact that it’s Alex and Henry having a moment of deep, emotional connection.”

He added to Digital Spy that no “tricks” were used to shoot the raunchy scenes: “In the book, their sex life is such a powerful part of their connection. And I really wanted to show something that I hadn’t seen much of in mainstream movie making, which is sex between two men that is loving and connected, and that is emotionally resonant.

“So we took great care with that scene… From the beginning, I told the studio that we were not going to shy away from the scene. There would be no tricks. It was going to be true and accurate to the way that two men have sex together.”

And speaking to City AM, Lopez made it clear that there was no point hiring him for a PG movie. He said: “If you don’t want this stuff in the movie, don’t hire me. You can’t tell this story without also telling this story about Henry also having a really robust, fulfilling sex life. They dig each other physically.

“A scene of intimacy is like a song in a musical. If it doesn’t progress the plot then it doesn’t actually belong in the movie. You see Alex losing his same sex virginity. That is a very tender thing for a person. We put a lot of care into filming those scenes.”
