Strictly Come Dancing ‘shake-up’ as BBC show gets ‘royal approval’ for 20th anniversary

Strictly Come Dancing is gearing up for a right Royal knees-up to mark its 20th birthday bash this year.

The BBC is reportedly planning to broadcast from none other than Buckingham Palace. Since its debut in 2004, the beloved dance contest has seen a bevvy of celebs strut their stuff with pro dancers, all vying for that shiny Glitterball prize.

Currently helmed by Tess Daly and Claudia Winkleman, the show bid farewell to Bruce Forsyth’s presenting in 2014. From the iconic BBC Television Centre to the dazzling heights of Wembley Arena and Blackpool Tower, not forgetting its current digs at Elstree Studios, Strictly has waltzed across some impressive stages.

But now, it seems the Beeb is set to sprinkle a bit of regal glitter on the show’s 20th-anniversary extravaganza. Whispers are already swirling about who’ll be foxtrotting onto this year’s roster, but the big buzz is that we’ll be getting a live feed straight from Buckingham Palace’s grand ballroom.

And get this Queen Camilla, a self-confessed Strictly aficionado, might just grace us with her presence, as per the Daily Mail’s scoop. A little birdie told them: “Camilla loves Strictly, so what a dream this is for her.

“It has been about getting the timing right and 2024 is the year. Strictly started in 2004 so it is two decades. There is huge excitement about this happening it is going to be quite a night.”, reports the Mirror.

Meanwhile, the BBC’s lips are sealed tighter than a dancer’s paso doble posture, offering no comment when The Mirror came calling for the deets. Camilla has been a staunch supporter of the BBC’s Strictly Come Dancing, and she recently gushed to pro dancer Johannes Radebe that she’s “one of Strictly’s greatest fans”. At a charity gig earlier this year, Camilla watched in delight as Johannes showed off his moves, teaching tap and the cha-cha-cha to a group of eager beginners at a Royal Voluntary Service class in Cambridge.

Johannes was chuffed to bits, telling Camilla: “I’m still beside myself that you watch Strictly Come Dancing.” To which the Duchess responded with Royal approval: “We watch it. I’m one of Strictly’s greatest fans.”

Flashback to 2022, and Camilla was spreading her love for the dance show all over the EastEnders set, where she had a chinwag with 2021 champ Rose Ayling-Ellis who scooped the Glitterball Trophy with Giovanni Pernice.

Camilla enthused: “Rose, the Strictly star. I said we were all voting for Rose, I don’t know how you did all those dances.” Curious Rose quizzed: “Can I ask you, does the Queen watch Strictly Come Dancing? ” And Camilla spilled the Royal beans, confirming: “I think she does. She probably watched you.”
