The Chase contestant reveals he once worked with Bradley Walsh in bizarre role

The Chase began on Friday (March 15) with Bradley Walsh left stunned by a contestant’s bizarre job confession.

Matt, the first contestant of the day on the ITV show revealed he worked as a professional juggler in Kent. And the 51-year old explained that he had once opened for Brad at a London Palladium performance earlier in his career.

Quizzed by the host on his unusual choice of profession, Matt said: “I started about 30 years and I’ve been going ever since. My trademark trick is that I balance a pint of beer on my head and drink it through a tube while I juggle with three flaming torches.”

Taken aback, Bradley quipped: “That’s quite a niche market.” Matt continued: “I work in a troop of seven people and we do a tour of the country and in fact once we did a Sunday night at the London Palladium. We were bottom of the bill, but do you know who was top of it?”

“No go on, I don’t know,” responded Bradley, confused. Matt answered: “Bradley Walsh!” as the studio erupted in laughter. “Wow!” Bradley declared.

Ahead of the cash-builder round, Matt was asked who he would like to play against, to which he confessed Jenny Ryan. And he was granted his wish as the ‘The Vixen’ appeared to take on Matt and his fellow hopefuls, Nadia, Steve and Serena.

After answering five questions correctly, Jenny offered him a the opportunity to play for a risky £50,000 and a much safer £1,000 along with the £5,000 he had earned. Conferring with the team, Matt opted for the middle amount and made light work of his battle, safely returning home with the cash as Jenny lagged three positions behind.

Over on X (formerly Twitter), meanwhile, viewers responded to Matt’s unusual job, with one commenting: “We got a singer, magician and a juggler. What an interesting trio. #TheChase.”

Another joked in disbelief: “A f***ing professional juggler?! #TheChase.” A third sympathised: “Telling Bradley Walsh that you were on the same bill as Brad and he clearly had no idea.” And a mean fourth wrote: “Professional juggler = unemployed.”

The Chase airs weekdays at 5pm on ITV and ITVX.
