The Chase fans hit out at Bradley Walsh’s four-word response to ITV show player’s exit

The Chase fans have hit out at host Bradley Walsh’s choice of words as he told a contestant she was “no longer with us”.

Hopeful Sophie was on Thursday’s instalment (1 February) of the ITV game show but got her marching orders after going up against Chaser Paul ‘The Sinnerman’ Sinha. As he said goodbye, presenter Bradley wished her well and made the remark about her not being around anymore – which some viewers thought was a little dramatic.

Several took to X to comment on it, with one suggesting it was a bit “harsh”. Someone else asked: “No longer with us. Is she dead?”

Another baffled viewer wrote: “She’s no longer with us? They’re going to kill her off? Even I think that’s harsh.” Someone else chimed in: “’You’re sadly no longer with us.’ Brad, she’s just out of the game, she’s not died from a horrific car accident on her way home.”

“She didn’t pass away Brad!” giggled another viewer who was tickled by his remark. “’Sadly no longer with us’, her loved ones have just s*** a brick Brad,” pointed out another viewer.

Another person joked that Sophie “looked petrified”. Sharing a GIF of someone looked stunned, another fan wrote on X: “Sophie when Brad said, ‘Sadly you’re no longer with us’.”

There was another incident in the episode that also got people talking. Contestant Eddie had revealed that he was a teacher, meaning expectations for how he was going to perform were pretty high.

He didn’t let viewers down and romped through the first few questions, clocking up correct answer after correct answer. But he hit a stumbling block that left many scratching their heads. Eddie was asked about fictional spies but couldn’t come up with one, leaving some to ask: “What about James Bond?”

One viewer quipped: “Bradley: A fictional spy. Eddie: Pass…” “You couldn’t think of a fictional spy?” asked someone else.

“Guess a fictional spy ffs!…” added another disbelieving viewer. “He passed on a fictional spy. That teacher still needs a hell of a lot of learning,” teased somebody else.

The Chase airs weeknights on ITV1 at 5pm
