The Traitors’ Ross originally refused BBC show stint due to concerns with co-star mum

The Traitors star Ross Carson originally turned down the offer to appear on the popular BBC series after being approached by bosses.

The video director is still in the running to walk away with the eye-watering prize fund after recently being recruited by Traitors Andrew Jenkins and Harry Clark.

His mum Diane Carson was murdered earlier in the series and has revealed that her son had reservations about working alongside her but she managed to change his mind. The mother and so duo kept their family relationship hidden from their fellow contestants in a bid to make it all the way to the end and if it wasn’t for Diane, Ross wouldn’t have been invited to the Scottish castle.

Speaking to Daily Star about the application process, Diane explained: “I got through about three quarters through the rounds and they said ‘Would any of your children like to take part?’ So to be fair most of them would have done because we’re great games players, but the eldest two have got children and were both moving house at the time, so I thought Ross was the best bet.

“He originally said ‘Mum. I’m not doing it. I’m not having you tell me what to do on national TV’ and I said: ‘I’ll be telling everybody what to do so don’t worry about it. You won’t be any different’ so he decided to give it ago as well. We didn’t really have any game plan. It was just to be quiet and not tell anybody ever that he was my son.

Both Ross and Diane weren’t picked to be Traitors but host Claudia Winkleman on the first day but since Diane’s dramatic exit, Ross has been chosen to join the dark side by Harry and Andrew just days before the final meaning that he knows exactly who is responsible for his mum’s “death”.

Diane said: “I would like Ross to win because blood is thicker then water but Evie [Morrison] was one of my girls and Mollie [Pearce], they are fabulous ladies.” Since getting buried alive after being killed off by The Traitors, Diane has become a TV icon an her kids have told her she needs to work on her social media skills.

She said: “I’m definitely bemused by everything that’s been going on, it’s utterly mental. I’m slightly detached because I’m not on Twitter or TikTok so my kids give me a lot of the stuff what’s been going on. My family have decided I need to work on my Instagram because I only had a few posts on there but it’s going mental. They send me all the memes and pictures that’s going around.

“I think I’m still in a bit of shock and I’m very flattered by everything. I’m being talked about for being outspoken, opinionated and direct but these are all things which drive my kids mad so to be called ‘mother’ by the nation for all these things is pretty validating.” Fans will have to wait and see if Ross gets revenge for his mum and goes against his fellow Traitors or if he will get caught out by the remaining Faithful.

The Traitors airs Wednesday, Thursday and Friday on BBC One at 9pm
