True Blood’s Anna Paquin walks with cane as she talks ‘difficult’ health battle

Anna Paquin, best known for her role in True Blood, stepped out this week with a cane at the premiere of her new film A Bit of Light in New York City.

The star hasn’t been seen in public much for two years due to private health challenges, and has now opened up on the “difficult” condition which affects her mobility and speech. The last time Anna hit the red carpet was nearly two years ago back in October 2022.

Anna admitted at the glitzy event in Crosby Street Hotel, SoHo: “It hasn’t been easy.” A source clarified to People magazine that she should, however, make a full recovery from her mobility and speech difficulties. She was joined by her actor husband Stephen Moyer at the event.

Anna and Stephen fell in love while filming True Blood’s pilot in 2007. They tied the knot in 2010 and became parents to twin babies in 2012. In the popular HBO series, she portrayed Sookie Stackhouse, with Stephen playing her vampire love interest, Bill Compton.

British actor Stephen previously opened up about his relationship with Anna during a chat on Watch What Happens Live. He shared: “We were both single at the time, and there was just this kind of spark.”

A break from filming meant the pair didn’t see each other for three months, with Stephen admitting: “She had gone from having dark hair to this beautiful blonde, and I had gone from being blond to this dark vampire. By day three or four – oh, this is going to sound so syrupy – but I knew I wanted to spend the rest of my life with her. It was within seconds, really, and it just became a thing.”

Stephen revealed that they’d met while filming the pilot episodes of True Blood, but he was still married to his ex-wife Lorien Haynes. However, he insists that they were separated when he and Anna started their romance, and his divorce was officially finalised in 2008.

Anna and Stephen got engaged in 2009 and tied the knot in 2010. Their wedding took place at a fancy private home in Malibu at the peak of their TV fame.
