Vernon Kay left red-faced as he swears live on air and quickly issues apology

Vernon Kay was left mortified as he issued an apology moments after he accidentally swore live on air.

The 49-year-old TV presenter returned to the helm of his BBC Radio 2 show on Wednesday (March 27). But things quickly took an unfortunate turn when the 49-year-old accidentally suffered an unfortunate slip of the tongue.

Speaking to his listeners, Vernon, who is married to Strictly Come Dancing host Tedd Daly, was talking about time capsules. On the show, he read out a letter from a beloved fan that said: “Hey Vern, can you wish a happy 100th anniversary to the Vernon Building Society in Stockport.”

Vernon went on to discuss al the positive things Stockport has produced – including his broadcaster wife Tess. He went on: “And as I’m reading this, they’re burying a time capsule with pupils from St Joseph’s Primary School containing everything that’s great about Greater Manchester which will be opened in 100 years in 2124.

“None of us will be around when they opened that – how crazy is that? It’ll be some other clown sat at a radio station.” But things soon took a tun for the worse when Vernon added: “If you are going down there, to the burying of the time capsule, enjoy that little bit of p***.”

The presenter had meant to say “a little piece of history” before his accidental slip of the tongue. Stunned and amused by his cheeky mistake, the former All Stars Family Fortunes presenter couldn’t help but chuckle on air.

After he pulled himself together, he told listeners: “I apologise, slip of the tongue. I’m having so much fun today – now I do really need a wee after laughing.” After listening to his on air blunder, Radio 2 listeners flooded to social media to share their reactions online.

One user penned: “Brilliant, slip of the tongue” as another agreed: “Love Vernon Kay! He just swore on the radio.” Last month, Vernon fans were left baffled when his mid-morning radio show suffered a technical blunder.

He was chatting away to his audience as normal when his voice was suddenly cut off with listeners hearing nothing but silence before “emergency tapes” began to play. The dad-of-two was in the middle of saying: “When The Sun Goes Down reached number one in January…” before the malfunction happened.

When he returned to air, the presenter confirmed Radio 2’s system had crashed and needed to be rebooted. He chuckled: “Right well that’s exciting, isn’t it? Let me explain what’s happened.

“Basically, the system needed a reboot. That’s what happened. Everything just crashed, literally crashed. We have a machine where we play all the music off and that’s gone kaput.

“That’s got warning signs flashing in front of me. I don’t know whether it’s overheated or having a day but it’s gone kaput.” The TV star took over the mid-morning slot from broadcasting icon Ken Bruce back in May last year.

The 72-year-old broadcaster left to join commercial rival Greatest Hits Radio in March after hosting the same BBC slot since 1986. Vernon has said there are no hard feelings between the DJs, and they even take the same train each morning.
