Zoe Ball replaced on BBC Radio 2 after family death as friend pays sweet tribute

Zoe Ball’s replacement, Gaby Roslin, has issued an emotional statement on air in response to the tragic passing of Zoe’s mother.

Zoe, who had been taking a break from her BBC Radio 2 Breakfast Show to care for her mother, Julia Ball, shared the heartbreaking news of her mother’s death on social media. Julia had moved into a hospice barely over a week ago as she battled cancer.

Writing about her mother’s passing, Zoe poured out her emotions, stating: “Sleep tight dear Mama. Thank you for teaching us how to love unconditionally, to always show courage and empathy, and how, even in the darkest of days, laughter is the greatest of gifts.

“Very sadly, Julia lost her fight yesterday. We’re all obviously sending so much love to Zoe and to the whole family, to her brother and her children.

“It’s a horrible, awful time and I know so many of you have been through this time, losing a parent, losing a loved one. I think the one thing, if I could pass on anything is that grief has no rules,” reports the Express.

“There are no rules about this at all, Zoe you know I’ve got your back, I’ll always have your back, I love you dearly. You’re a very dear friend, and everyone on the team here loves you and sends you so much love.”

A number of others shared their condolences with Zoe, while her son Woody Cook, who appeared on Celebrity Gogglebox with Zoe, also paid tribute. He said: “Today I say goodbye to Granny J, thank you for being a wonderful woman.”

One follower said: “I’m so sorry Zoe. You’ve still managed to brighten our mornings even when you’ve been going through this. You must take after your mum. Sending love.”
