Sacha Baron Cohen Rules Out Third 'Borat' Movie Because It's 'Too Dangerous'

    Amazon Studios

The ‘Trial of the Chicago 7’ actor has no plan to make a follow-up to ‘Borat Subsequent Moviefilm’ because filming the prank scenes has become ‘too dangerous.’

    Feb 25, 2021
AceShowbiz – Sacha Baron Cohen has ruled out the possibility of reprising his role as Borat for a third film, insisting he’s done with “dangerous” disguise movies.
The comedian debuted his Kazakhstani alter-ego in “Borat: Cultural Learnings of America for Make Benefit Glorious Nation of Kazakhstan” in 2006 before releasing the sequel “Borat Subsequent Moviefilm” last year (20). However, there won’t be another follow-up film in the franchise, as he told Entertainment Tonight that shooting the movies has become “too dangerous.”

“For Borat, there were a couple of times I had to put on a bulletproof vest to go and shoot a scene, and you don’t want to do that too many times in your life,” he explained. “I was pretty lucky to get out this time, so no, I’m not doing it again. I’m going to stay with the scripted stuff.”
Cohen’s “Trial of the Chicago 7” co-star Eddie Redmayne then chimed in to ask how he managed to sleep before shooting such a dangerous scene – such as when Borat attended a far-right, anti-lockdown rally – to which the actor replied that he “doesn’t.”
“The night before something like that – that rally – you’re trying to go through everything that can go wrong,” he said. “In a normal scene like what we’re doing, we’re trying to make sure, ‘How do I make sure my performance is real? Have I done my research? How do I make sure the accent’s perfect?’ In this one you’re going, ‘OK, if a bunch of guys with guns come from that side of the stage, have I got a way to get out? What happens if someone shoots me? What if a bunch of people start shooting me?’ ”

Sacha Baron Cohen Spills How Clueless Cops Allowed Him to Pull Off Best 'Borat' Sequel Stunt

    Amazon Studios

In a new interview with Ben Affleck, the comedian goes into details about the time officials came perilously close to blowing his cover as Donald Trump during ‘Borat Subsequent Moviefilm’ shooting.

    Jan 25, 2021
AceShowbiz – Sacha Baron Cohen owes hapless U.S. police and security officers a huge debt of gratitude for helping him pull off one of the best stunts in “Borat Subsequent Moviefilm”.
The Brit reprised his role as Kazakh newsman Borat in the 2020 follow up to the 2006 comedy hit and admits law enforcement officials came perilously close to blowing his cover when he dressed up as former American leader Donald Trump for one of the film’s pivotal moments.
In a new Variety Actors on Actors interview with Ben Affleck, Cohen reveals he was being “wanded down” by security agents when they heard a “Beep”.
“The guy says, ‘What is that?’ And I go, ‘It’s my pacemaker’,” the funnyman says. “I’ve got a field producer next to me who’s completely c**pping himself. (Because) we’re going to get busted.”
And then the Transportation Security Administration (TSA) officer spotted a wire, which was part of a hidden device allowing Cohen to communicate with his producers.
“He goes, ‘What is that?’ And I didn’t know what to say,” explains Cohen. “I was completely stumped. He goes, ‘Oh, that’s the wire leading to your pacemaker, right?’ I was like, ‘Obviously’. He goes, ‘All right, come through.’ ”

Once inside the event – a Conservative Political Action Conference – Cohen pulled off his funny scene and was quickly apprehended by a bunch of Secret Service officers, demanding to know his true identity.
And again, he was saved by an officer, who wasn’t quite on top of his game.
“One of the cops goes, ‘Give me your ID….’,” he adds. “I go, ‘Listen, I’d like to, but my ID is in my shoe. Do you want me to take off my shoe?’ ”
Feeling sure he was busted and the whole premise of the movie was ruined, Cohen held his breath, before experiencing one more giant stroke of good fortune.
“And the guy goes, ‘No, forget it’,” he smiles.

Maria Bakalova Almost Snubbed 'Borat Subsequent Moviefilm' Because It's 'So Fake'

    Amazon Studios

The Bulgarian actress, who raked in numerous accolades for her role in the second ‘Borat’ movie, almost missed out Sacha Baron Cohen’s movie because she thought it’s not legit.

    Jan 23, 2021
AceShowbiz – Red hot awards favourite Maria Bakalova auditioned for “Borat Subsequent Moviefilm” as a joke because she was convinced the project was “so fake.”
The Bulgarian actress has received more than 20 award nominations for her role as young journalist Tutar Sagdiyev in Brit Sacha Baron Cohen’s acclaimed follow up to 2006 comedy “Borat”, and she’s already notched at least 10 wins.
She feels a little silly now because she was convinced the film project wasn’t “legit” when she tried out.

“It was basically a friend of mine (who) told me, ‘They are researching for a lead actress for a big project Hollywood movie’, and I was like, ‘Oh no, that sounds so fake, it’s not even possible (sic),’ ” she laughed during an appearance on “The Kelly Clarkson Show”.
But when she found herself with a spare couple of hours one day, she decided to record a self-taped audition on her phone just in case the job was for real and a few hours later, she heard back from the film’s producers who tried to set up a video call with her to discuss the movie.
But when she grabbed her phone she had no signal to make the connection, and had to turn to the producers of a production she was working on for help. “I asked my producers and directors to drive me to the nearest city… and then I catch a little bit of wifi (sic),” she explained.

Sacha Baron Cohen Donates $100K to Pranked 'Borat' Babysitter Who's Paid Only $3,600 for the Movie

    Amazon Prime/GoFundMe

The ‘Borat’ actor makes a $100,000 donation to Jeanise Jones after it was revealed she ‘wasn’t paid much money’ for the new flick ‘Subsequent Moviefilm’.

    Oct 31, 2020
AceShowbiz – Sacha Baron Cohen has pledged $100,000 (£77,500) to “babysitter” Jeanise Jones’ Oklahoma community, after she made a big impact with her scene-stealing appearance in “Borat Subsequent Moviefilm”.
Jones was one of the sequel’s breakout stars and quickly became a fan favourite after appearing as a “babysitter” hired to watch Borat’s 15-year-old daughter – played by the 24-year-old Bulgarian actress Maria Bakalova.
While filming, Jones was reportedly told she would be appearing in a documentary about child brides and that the film would largely only be seen overseas.
Pastor Derrick Scobey, of Jones’ Ebenezer Baptist Church, previously set up a GoFundMe crowdfunding page in her honour, as she was told she’d be playing a ” ‘Black Grandmother’ in a ‘documentary.’ ”
“Jeanise emerged as that person and she was completely unaware that this was a comedy, and all of this was made up,” reads a statement on the page. “The joke is on us/Jeanise and that’s no problem.”

It adds that Jones “wasn’t paid much money” for the film and she was worried about the fate of Bakalova’s Tutar for the duration of filming.
When WENN went to press, the fundraiser had already amassed over $140,000 (£108,500) and, outside of the online platform, Cohen also donated $100,000 in Jones’ honour.
Scobey told People, “I was blown away but not surprised because I was told about what type of heart this man has. Maybe it’s a little risque, some of the things in the movie, but he has a good heart.”
“While all these people around the world are loving how she’s the moral compass of the movie, she’s sitting here serving people in the dark and in the cold,” he added of Jones. “This is who we are. This is what we do for our community, and we love our community.”
“Borat Subsequent Moviefilm” is currently screening on Amazon Prime Video.

  • 'Borat' Sequel Dodges Lawsuit Filed by Holocaust Survivor's Family

    Amazon Studios

After a judge in Georgia rejected the legal action, a lawyer for Amazon’s streaming service declares, ‘Sacha Baron Cohen was deeply grateful for the opportunity to work with Judith Dim Evans.’

    Oct 27, 2020
AceShowbiz – A lawsuit filed by the estate of holocaust survivor Judith Dim Evans against “Borat Subsequent Moviefilm” has been dismissed.
Evans, who died this summer, was approached to talk about the Holocaust for what she thought was a serious documentary, with her conversation filmed in a synagogue in Georgia on January 29. However, she later discovered it was to be used in Sacha Baron Cohen’s sequel, “Borat Subsequent Moviefilm: Delivery of Prodigious Bribe to American Regime for Make Benefit Once Glorious Nation of Kazakhstan”.
“Upon learning after giving the interview that the movie was actually a comedy intended to mock the Holocaust and Jewish culture, Ms. Evans was horrified and upset,” the lawsuit filed against Amazon Prime Video and Oak Springs Productions read.

After the lawsuit was filed in Georgia by Dim Evans’ daughter Michelle Dim St. Pierre, a judge in the state rejected it. St. Pierre then withdrew the lawsuit.
Russell Smith, the lawyer for Amazon’s streaming service, said in a statement following the rejection, “The lawsuit was dismissed, unconditionally. The lawsuit is over. Sacha Baron Cohen was deeply grateful for the opportunity to work with Judith Dim Evans, whose compassion and courage as a Holocaust survivor has touched the hearts of millions of people who have seen the film.”
“Judith’s life is a powerful rebuke to those who deny the Holocaust, and with this film and his activism, Sacha Baron Cohen will continue his advocacy to combat Holocaust denial around the world.”
“Borat Subsequent Moviefilm” was released on October 23 on Prime Video. It arrived more than a decade after the first movie, which debuted in 2006.

  • Sacha Baron Cohen Throws Shade at Trump's Secret Service Following Mike Pence Prank

    WENN

The ‘Borat’ actor recalls his stunt at the Republican event dressing up President Donald Trump and how the secret service never asked for his ID before they let him go.

    Oct 24, 2020
AceShowbiz – Actor Sacha Baron Cohen’s prank on U.S. Vice President Mike Pence for his new “Borat” movie was almost derailed by security officials after his fat suit set off the metal detector.
The British funnyman reprises his Kazakh newsman character for “Borat Subsequent Moviefilm”, in which he dresses up in a padded suit, wig, and heavy makeup to impersonate President Donald Trump at the Conservative Political Action Conference in Maryland in February (20), when he interrupted Pence’s speech at the political event.
He was promptly escorted out by security guards, but Cohen admits he almost didn’t make it into the venue – until a lie about a pacemaker saved the stunt.
Recalling the lengths he had to go to for the shoot, he told U.S. show “Good Morning America”, “That was pretty difficult because I woke up at two o’clock in the morning and I had a world-class prosthetics team turn my face into the president. That took about six hours and I was wearing a fat suit…”
“Obviously I had to get through a number of layers of security, including TSA (Transportation Security Administration) security… I knew the moment they touched the fat suit they would not allow me in, and one of them wanded me (with a metal detector) and there was a beep.”

      See also…

“They said, ‘What is that?’ I said, ‘It’s a pacemaker,’ and then they carried on with the wand, and then suddenly the lower bit of the belly, it beeped again, and they said, ‘What is that? Why is it beeping?’ ”
“I had no answer and the TSA officer said, ‘Hold on, it’s the wire for the pacemaker, right?’ I was like, ‘Yeah…’ and he goes, ‘OK, go through!’ ”
It wasn’t the only hurdle Cohen had to overcome – once inside, he had to hide out in the men’s toilets and wait for Pence to take the stage.
“I essentially hid in the bathroom at CPAC for five hours… then eventually we did the scene, and got escorted out by about 15 security staff, including Secret Service and local police,” he shared.
However, Cohen reveals he was let off pretty easily after the prank. “Interestingly enough, they never got my identification,” he recalled.
“So if you’re watching this, the Secret Service, I think next time try and ensure if somebody breaks into a political event with the vice president or president, you check for their ID.”

  • Sacha Baron Cohen Genuinely Worried for Female Co-Star During Her Encounter With Rudy Guiliani

    ABC

The ‘Borat’ actor says he was concerned for actress Maria Bakalova when he was monitoring the stunt from a hideaway during her encounter with Donald Trump’s lawyer.

    Oct 24, 2020
AceShowbiz – Comedian Sacha Baron Cohen was genuinely “concerned” for his “Borat” sequel co-star Maria Bakalova as she found herself in a compromising situation with U.S. President Donald Trump’s personal lawyer, Rudy Guiliani.
The former New York City mayor has vehemently denied any wrongdoing after he joined Bakalova, who plays Borat’s daughter and was posing as a journalist, in her hotel suite, and was filmed reclining on a bed and appearing to put his hand down the front of his pants.
A preview of the scene from the new “Borat Subsequent Moviefilm” concluded with Cohen, as his iconic Kazakh newsman character Borat, bursting into the room and declaring, “She’s 15! She’s too old for you!”
Guiliani has maintained he was simply tucking in his shirt after removing his recording equipment, and on Thursday night (22Oct20), Cohen released a video of himself, as Borat, pretending to defend the lawyer’s actions, stating, “What was an innocent sexy-time encounter between a consenting man and my 15-year-old daughter has been turned into something disgusting by fake news media.”
However, in a chat with “Good Morning America” on Friday, Cohen insisted it’s clear from the footage what Guiliani’s intentions with Bakalova were – and he actually became worried for the Bulgarian actress as the scene played out.
“If the president’s lawyer found what he did there appropriate behaviour, then heaven knows what he’s done with other female journalists in hotel rooms,” the British actor declared.

      See also…

“I just urge everyone to watch the movie. It is what it is, he did what he did. Make your own mind up; it was pretty clear to us.”
He added, “I was quite concerned for her (Bakalova) during the scene. We built a hideaway that I was hiding in during the entire scene so I was monitoring it by text, but it’s my responsibility as a producer as well to ensure that the lead actor is looked after.”
    [embedded content]
Despite his unease at the situation, his co-star knew she was never in any real “danger.”
“I always felt safe with our team, with our crew, with Sacha in my corner,” Bakalova explained. “I actually never felt that I was in danger, that’s why I’m lucky.”
The mockumentary, which has a full title of “Borat Subsequent Moviefilm: Delivery of Prodigious Bribe to American Regime for Make Benefit Once Glorious Nation of Kazakhstan”, premiered on the Amazon streaming service on Friday (23Oct20).
