Carole Baskin Turns Down Offer to 'Clear the Air' After 'Freak Show' on 'Tiger King' Season 1

    Facebook

The former ‘Dancing with the Stars’ contestant reveals she has been approached to appear in the upcoming second season of ‘Tiger King’ but she turns down the offer.

    Feb 26, 2021
AceShowbiz – Carole Baskin has recently rejected an approach to take part in a second series of “Tiger King”.
The 59-year-old star has previously spoken about how she felt misled about the intentions of the Netflix series – which examined the feud between her and private zoo owner Joe Exotic, including allegations she had killed her missing second husband Don Lewis – so she was amazed when the team behind the show recently got in touch to “clear the air” and try to persuade her and her spouse, Howard Baskin, to sign up for a new series.
She told RadioTimes.com, “It was just a few weeks ago that (the director) Rebecca Chaiklin had reached out asking if we could clear the air. I have been speaking about how we had been so misled into thinking this was going to be the Blackfish for big cats and then it turned out to be the freak show that they produced.”
“So when she said she wanted to clear the air, I felt like, you know, that’s just absolutely ridiculous. It was so obvious that I had been betrayed by them. Why would she ever think that I would be willing to speak to them again. And so I told her to just lose my number.”
Rebecca then reached out to Howard, who told her the programme makers had an opportunity to “redeem” themselves but insisted they wouldn’t be part of any further episodes.
She added, “He said if you guys want to redeem yourselves for all of the horrible things that you made people believe about us that just weren’t true, then your season two will show that but we don’t want any part of it.”

The big cat conservationist worked with the “Tiger King” producers for five years on the first season and believed the series would expose the cub petting industry and only discovered the true angle when she watched the show.
She said, “I found out about it the same time everybody else in the world did. When we saw the trailers coming out for something called Tiger King, we actually reached out to them and said, ‘Who’s working on that film because you said Joe Exotic was going to be like five minutes of your film?’ And all of a sudden, they didn’t want to talk to us.”
“So we sat down and binge-watched it and we kept thinking that surely at some point, they would set the record straight, and they never did. They just left all of those false allegations hanging in the air and we’ve all seen the results of that.”
And she insisted the “biggest lie” on the series was her feud with Joe – who is currently in jail over a plot to have Carole killed – because she’s never even spoken to him.
Asked if she had been in touch with the zoo keeper or his team since the series aired, she said, “You know the biggest lie that people were sold in Tiger King was that there was a feud because I’ve never actually spoken to Joe.”
“I’ve only ever seen him twice before the trial – the murder for hire trail – and those two times were both in conjunction with our lawsuit that we had against him because he was using our name.”
“So no, I have not talked to Joe or any of the people who proclaim to be trying to get him out of jail.”

Carole Baskin in Talks to Front Own TV Series and Write Memoirs

    Instagram

The big cat conservationist, who rose to fame thanks to her participation on Netflix’s ‘Tiger King: Murder, Mayhem and Madness’, makes the revelation in an end-of-year wrap up email to fans.

    Dec 29, 2020
AceShowbiz – “Tiger King” star Carole Baskin is in talks to front her own TV docuseries and write her memoirs.
The big cat conservationist, who runs an animal sanctuary in Florida, rose to fame thanks to her participation on Netflix’s “Tiger King: Murder, Mayhem and Madness” series, which documented her feud with former zoo keeper Joe Exotic, who is currently serving a 22-year prison sentence for his role in a murder-for-hire plot against his rival.
Now Baskin, who recently competed on reality show “Dancing with the Stars”, reveals she has been approached to sign on for a couple of exciting new projects.
In an end-of-year wrap up email to fans, she wrote, “I’m in negotiations for a TV show series on the work we do to end big cat abuse and to write my memoirs.”

It’s unclear how much of her story Baskin will be willing to share in her autobiography, as she is also facing scrutiny amid the ongoing mystery surrounding the 1997 disappearance of her ex-husband, Don Lewis.
The story of Don’s disappearance, shortly before he was due to head to Costa Rica, was prominently featured on “Tiger King”, on which Exotic alleged Baskin had killed her husband and fed him to her big cats.
Baskin, who had Don legally declared dead in 2002, has denied the accusations. While she claimed her innocence over her husband’s disappearance, the animal activist was sued by his family in September 2020 for defamation.
The lawsuit was filed by Lewis’ daughters, Gale, Lynda and Donna, and his former assistant Anne McQueen after Baskin was being “complicit with jokes” about his death on “DWTS”. In the paperwork, McQueen claimed that Baskin should have not taken a part in the jokes.
“These exact same false statements, and additional ones, are being made again in 2020. It is malicious,” Lewis’ family’s attorney, Jon Phillips, said in the docs. “Making matters worse, Howard Baskin is making these same statements publicly, as is Big Cat Rescue. As such, they have been added as Defendants.”

  • Carole Baskin Accuses Missing Husband's Daughters of Publicity Stunt for Buying 'DWTS' Ad

    Facebook

The Big Cat Rescue head calls out her missing husband’s family, accusing them of PR stunt after they bought advert on ‘Dancing with the Stars’ while she’s competing on the show.
    Sep 17, 2020
AceShowbiz – “Tiger King” star Carole Baskin has slammed her missing husband’s daughters for buying an advert during her appearance on “Dancing with the Stars”.
Don Lewis’ three kids and their attorney, John Phillips, purchased 50 seconds of air time for a commercial during the U.S. competition show on Monday (14Sep20), which they used to offer a $100,000 (£77,000) reward is being offered for any leads into his 1997 disappearance.
Baskin, 59, who had him legally declared dead in 2002, has now slammed the advert as a “publicity stunt.”
“I have not seen the ad. I am not at all surprised,” the animal sanctuary owner told Entertainment Tonight. “It’s just been a huge publicity stunt on their part so what more could they possibly do than that?”
The story of Lewis’ disappearance, shortly before he was due to head to Costa Rica, was prominently featured in Netflix’s “Tiger King: Murder, Mayhem and Madness” docuseries – with rival zookeeper Joe Exotic alleging in the docuseries that Baskin killed Lewis, a claim she has denied.
The series culminated in Exotic being jailed for 22 years after being convicted of plotting to murder Baskin and numerous animal welfare-related charges.
Baskin’s debut appearance on “Dancing With the Stars” was disastrous, as she racked up the lowest score – with the judges only awarding her 11 points out of 30 for her paso doble to “Rocky III” theme song “Eye of the Tiger”.
