  • Charlize Theron Offended by Sexist Car Training in 'The Italian Job'

The ‘Mad Max: Fury Road’ leading lady reveals she was ordered to take six weeks more car training that her male co-stars for the 2003 heist action movie.

AceShowbiz – Charlize Theron was insulted while preparing for 2003 heist movie “The Italian Job” when producers insisted she take six weeks more car training than her male co-stars.
Theron, Edward Norton, Jason Statham, and Mark Wahlberg had to do their own driving in the fast-paced film and producers wanted to make sure they were ready for the stunt work behind the wheel.
During a [email protected] panel, the Oscar winner said, “The Italian Job was a great experience, in the sense that I realised there was still so much misconception around women in the genre, even though in that film the action is really based on cars. We had to physically do a lot of that stuff. The only good thing that came out of that experience was that there was a real pressure to pull off those stunts with the actors.”
“But there was a very unfair process that went with that – I was the only woman with a bunch of guys and I remember vividly getting the schedule in our pre-production (period) and they had scheduled me for six weeks more car training than any of the guys. It was just so insulting, but it was also the thing that put a real fire under my a**.
“I was like, ‘Alright, you guys wants to play this game? Let’s go.’ And I made it a point to out drive all of those guys.”
She was so proud of her driving in the film, especially after Wahlberg threw up during a scene, and admits the perception of female action stars has changed in the last 15 years. “The good news now is that we’ve kind of changed the genre for women,” she said. “I think there’s great evidence where we now know you can’t hide behind ignorance anymore. Audiences love these films.”

  • Charlize Theron on the Recasting of Furiosa for Prequel Film: It's a Tough One to Swallow

Filmmaker George Miller has abandoned plans to use computer-generated imagery to de-age the ‘Mad Max: Fury Road’ actress, and eyed to cast Jodie Comer instead.

AceShowbiz – Charlize Theron is disappointed she won’t get the opportunity to reprise her “Mad Max: Fury Road” character in a Furiosa prequel, confessing it’s “a tough one to swallow.”
Filmmaker George Miller had initially been expected to reteam with Theron for the spin-off project to explore the war captain’s back story, but he recently abandoned plans to use computer-generated imagery to de-age the Oscar winner onscreen for the entire movie.
Instead, 27-year-old “Killing Eve” star Jodie Comer has reportedly been eyed to take over the part of a younger Furiosa, and Theron, 44, admits the news is crushing.
“It’s a tough one to swallow,” she told The Hollywood Reporter. “Listen, I fully respect George, if not more so in the aftermath of making that film (‘Fury Road’) with him. He’s a master, and I wish him nothing but the best.”
“(But) yeah, it’s a little heartbreaking, for sure. I really love that character, and I’m so grateful that I had a small part in creating her. She will forever be someone I think of and reflect on fondly.”
“Obviously, I would love to see that story continue, and if he feels like he has to go about it this way, then I trust him in that manner.”
However, all is not lost for the “Monster” actress – her “Fury Road” co-star Tom Hardy previously revealed there are plans for him to star in another two “Mad Max” films, and Theron has stated she’d return for another sequel if Miller directs.

George Miller Ditches Charlize Theron for Younger Actress in 'Mad Max' Spin-Off

    WENN/Warner Bros. Pictures

The ‘Mad Max: Fury Road’ director prefers casting a younger star as he abandons plans to make the original Furiosa depicter look younger for the upcoming spinoff.
    May 16, 2020
AceShowbiz – Charlize Theron’s dreams of reprising her “Mad Max: Fury Road” character Furiosa for a new spin-off has been dashed by director George Miller.
The filmmaker admits he did consider making the Oscar winner look younger, using the same computer-generated technology that made Robert De Niro look younger in last year’s 2019 “The Irishman”, but realised he couldn’t make a whole movie that way – and now he has abandoned the idea.
“For the longest time, I thought we could just use CG de-ageing on Charlize, but I don’t think we’re nearly there yet,” Miller said in an interview with The New York Times. “Despite the valiant attempts on The Irishman, I think there’s still an uncanny valley. Everyone is on the verge of solving it, particular Japanese video-game designers, but there’s still a pretty wide valley, I believe.”
But Theron has seen the script for the “Furiosa” spin-off as she was given that to help her create a background for her character. “It was purely a way of helping Charlize and explaining it to ourselves,” Miller explains.
Rosie Huntington-Whiteley, who appeared in “Fury Road”, says, “I got to read it when I was cast. It’s genius. I’ve always wondered if that movie’s going to get made.”
Reports suggest Anya Taylor-Joy is the front-runner to play the younger version of Charlize’s “Furiosa”.
Meanwhile, “Mad Max” star Tom Hardy has revealed there are plans for him to star in another two films and Theron has stated she’d return for another film if Miller directs.
The two actors recently went public with their feud on the set, telling The New York Times they both could have done more to be better castmates.
