Jude Law Warned of Covid-19 Pandemic by Real Scientists on Set of 'Contagion' Years Ago

    Warner Bros. Pictures

The ‘Sherlock Holmes’ actor says he ‘wasn’t hugely surprised’ by the global coronavirus pandemic because of his experience on the set of his 2011 movie.

AceShowbiz – Jude Law “wasn’t hugely surprised” by the Covid-19 pandemic after starring in 2011 movie “Contagion”.
The 47-year-old actor appeared as Alan Krumwiede in the film, which chronicles the spread of a deadly virus. Speaking to GQ magazine about his role in the movie, Jude he always believed that something similar would happen in the real world.
“There was absolutely the sense that this was going to happen,” he mused. “The great scientists on set with us who had worked with Scott (Z. Burns) the writer and (director) Steven (Soderbergh) were very learned and experienced individuals who knew what to expect. And they all said to us that this was going to happen – and it was a case of when rather than if.”
“The way they described it, which is exactly as it has happened, just made sense. What’s scary is you learn in a set like that because you’re being advised by experts, but it doesn’t necessarily sit.”

Jude added that, when he first started hearing reports of the Covid-19 virus and its start in China, his “alarm bells” started going off.
“When 2020 started, and we heard about what was initially happening in China, what fast became apparent around the world, it rang alarm bells,” he said. “Unfortunately, I wasn’t hugely surprised.”
Meanwhile, his co-star Kate Winslet said in a separate interview earlier this year that the 2011 movie prepared her for the horrors of the coronavirus pandemic.
“People thought I was crazy because I had been walking around wearing a mask for weeks, going into the grocery store and wiping everything down with isopropyl alcohol and wearing gloves,” she told the The Hollywood Reporter. “Then all of a sudden, March 13 came around, and people were like, ‘F**k, where do I get one of those masks?'”

  • Kate Winslet Credits Her Epidemiologist Role in 'Contagion' for Saving Her and Family From Covid-19

    Warner Bros. Pictures

The ‘Mildred Pierce’ actress claims her role in Steven Soderbergh’s 2011 feature film about deadly respiratory virus prepared her for the coronavirus pandemic.
    Aug 27, 2020
AceShowbiz – Kate Winslet’s role as an epidemiologist in 2011 drama “Contagion” prepared her for the horrors of the coronavirus pandemic.
The actress reveals being part of Steven Soderbergh’s star-studded movie, about a deadly disease that spreads from China to the U.S. and kills millions, made her hyper-aware of the necessary safety measures early on.
“People thought I was crazy because I had been walking around wearing a mask for weeks, going into the grocery store and wiping everything down with isopropyl alcohol and wearing gloves,” she tells the The Hollywood Reporter. “Then all of a sudden, March 13 came around, and people were like, ‘F**k, where do I get one of those masks?'”
The star, who appeared alongside Matt Damon, Gwyneth Paltrow, and Laurence Fishburne in the film, saved herself and her family from the virus, but several friends fell ill.
“One was in L.A. and was very lucky to get on a trial using convalescent plasma and did really, really well in the space of, like, 72 hours after the treatment,” she added. “And a dialect coach who lives in London has had it, was in hospital for 11 weeks, is out, and has had every lung test, blood test, blood pressure test, and is clear of everything but just cannot get better – is breathless, lethargic, still feels very unwell (sic).”
In March (20), Winslet joined co-stars Damon, Fishburne, and Jennifer Ehle for a Public Service Announcement on the safety measures needed to protect people against the virus.

'Contagion' Medical Consultant on Being Tested Positive for Coronavirus: This Is Miserable

Ian Lipkin, who served as the chief scientific consult for the 2011 pandemic thriller, reminds others that the very best tool people have to fight the virus is isolation and confinement.
    Mar 27, 2020
AceShowbiz – Ian Lipkin, the researcher who served as a medical consultant on the 2011 film “Contagion”, has tested positive for coronavirus.
Soderbergh’s 2011 pandemic thriller stars Gwyneth Paltrow as one of the earliest victims of a deadly pandemic virus, which she brings to the U.S. – with the actress herself drawing parallels between the script and the current global health crisis.
Speaking on Fox Business, Lipkin also said the situation has, “become very personal for me too, because I have Covid-19 as of yesterday. And this is miserable.”
He added: (If) it can hit me, it can hit anybody.”
Lipkin was the chief scientific consult for “Contagion”, also starring Kate Winslet, Marion Cotillard, and Matt Damon, which was noted for its scientific accuracy.
In the movie, Elliott Gould played a research scientist named Ian, who was based on Lipkin.
Back in January, Lipkin went to China to investigate coronavirus and self-quarantined for two weeks after returning home. However, he said that while he had an inkling of where he contracted coronavirus, “it doesn’t matter” where he got it as the disease has spread all over the United States.
He added: “(The) very best tool we have is isolation and confinement. It’s extraordinarily important that we harmonise whatever restrictions we have across the country.”
“We have porous borders between states and cities and unless we’re consistent, we’re not going to get ahead of this thing,” Lipkin shared.
Officials from the World Health Organisation (WHO) are urging people to stay home and practice social distancing amid the global health crisis.
