Drew Barrymore Calls Decision to Put Movie Making on Back Burner 'A No Brainer'

    Instagram

While she wants to focus on being a mother to her two daughters, the ‘Drew Barrymore Show’ host does admit that her hit Netflix series, ‘Santa Clarita Diet’, really saved her.

    Mar 11, 2021
AceShowbiz – Drew Barrymore is following best pal Cameron Diaz’s lead and stepping away from film cameras. The actress-turned-talk show host admits she has no interest in making another film right now, because it would take her away from the job she loves best – mum.
“I don’t want to be on a film set right now, but that could change when my kids are older,” she told Andy Cohen on his Sirius XM show. “I stopped doing these [films] when my kids were born, because I’ve done it since I was in diapers – 11 months old is when I started.”
“And it was a no brainer to me to put making movies on a back burner so that I could be present and raise my kids myself,” the 46-year-old actress continued explaining the reason behind her reluctance. “I didn’t want to be on a film set asking the nanny how the kids were. I was like, ‘That is not my journey.’ ”
Drew admits not being a film actress has allowed her to do other things. “When you step away from it, it’s a lot less scary… I’ve started brands, I was able to write a book…,” she added, explaining her hit Netflix show, “Santa Clarita Diet”, came along at the perfect moment.

“I was so knee deep into mothering my kids, I was like, ‘I don’t know who I am any more’,” she said. “I think I went way too far the opposite direction.”
She added, “And if I can’t remember that I’m an individual with a skill set, I might die. So then I got to play this woman who gets to eat people and it was exactly how I felt. And it was just perfect and it was comedy and it was delicious and it was fun and it was irreverent and I couldn’t have loved it more. And it really saved me.”

Cameron Diaz Not Ruling Out Possibility of Acting With Drew Barrymore Again

    WENN/Adriana M. Barraza

The ‘Charlie’s Angels’ star talks about the chance of her returning to work onscreen again when making an appearance on ‘The Drew Barrymore Show’ for the host’s birthday special.

    Feb 23, 2021
AceShowbiz – Cameron Diaz would “never say never” to a “Charlie’s Angels” return – as long as she gets to work with her best friend Drew Barrymore.
The actress has virtually retired from Hollywood since her last feature film role as Miss Hannigan in 2014’s “Annie”, and she recently insisted she “couldn’t imagine” returning to work onscreen while her one-year-old daughter, Raddix, is still so young.
However, Cameron isn’t ruling out the opportunity to co-star with Drew again, admitting they would always at least “consider” any new project together.
“I always say never say never and… there’s never a time where we’re not going to be connected or consider something together,” she shared in a special appearance on America’s “The Drew Barrymore Show” for the host’s birthday special, which aired on Monday, February 22.
Drew chimed in, “I’m glad that people feel that way [about wanting a ‘Charlie’s Angels’ return]… I’ll be grannies in inner tubes with Poo Poo [her nickname for Cameron], so we can do anything and everything, as long as we’re together.”
The old friends grew more emotional as Cameron told Drew, “I can’t wait to just grow old with you and to experience the rest of our life together, because truly one of the great joys of my life is our friendship, and when I think about you I literally will cry, because I just think you’re so special, and to celebrate you… every year it’s one of my favourite times of the year.”

Drew responded, “I have a whole life to live with you… You’ve made me a better person my whole life, and you’ve seen me through everything: ugly, beautiful, loss, life.”
“Every break up was OK because we were always there, and I can’t wait to grow old with you too, because we’re gonna be old together!”
She also took a moment to explain the origins of her odd nickname for Cameron, revealing, “It started out as classic boy humour, and then it just evolved into a true term of endearment, and it stuck!”

Drew and Cameron joined forces with Lucy Liu for their first “Charlie’s Angels” outing in 2000, reuniting for 2003 sequel, “Charlie’s Angels: Full Throttle”.
The franchise has since been revamped with actresses Kristen Stewart, Naomi Scott, and Ella Balinska in the lead roles for the 2019 revival.

The ‘Wedding Singer’ actress considers comedy as a ‘medicine’ and ‘survivalist mechanism’ to get through tough times in her personal life as she grew up under public scrutiny.
    Sep 18, 2020
AceShowbiz – Drew Barrymore turned to comedy roles in an effort to get through tough times in her personal life.
The 45-year-old endured a troubled and wild youth after shooting to fame as a child star in the 1980s, but rehabilitated her career with a series of well-received romantic comedies in the late 1990s, including “The Wedding Singer” and “Never Been Kissed”.
Speaking to U.S. late night host Stephen Colbert on Wednesday (16Sep20), the star revealed that she uses comedy and laughter to get through tough periods in her life.
“Comedy to me was a subconscious survivalist mechanism,” the actress said, adding, “When I was laughing, everything else fell away and the world was awesome, it was okay.”
Explaining her outlook on life she continued, “I think laughter is medicine, and it’s necessary and we need it.”
Drew hopes to get audiences laughing with her latest venture – “The Drew Barrymore Show”, a chat vehicle that debuted in the U.S. on CBS on Monday.
Although she’s delighted to become a chat show queen, the “E.T.” star says she’s had to “go through a lot of different evolutions” before being ready to become a TV host.
“I don’t think I would have done at least what I’m hopefully excited about doing and capable of now, at any other point,” she explained.
