Michael Keaton Blames COVID-19 for Uncertainty of His Return as Batman in 'The Flash'

    WENN/Sheri Determan

Insisting that he was not ‘being cute or coy,’ the actor who has played the Caped Crusader in two Tim Burton films claims he was too occupied with the pandemic that he has yet to take a look at the script.

    Mar 23, 2021

    AceShowbiz –
Michael Keaton is refusing to confirm he’ll be putting the Batman suit on again for “The Flash”, because he’s too concerned about COVID-19 to take a look at the script.

It has been reported that both he and Ben Affleck will portray Bruce Wayne and his alter ego in the upcoming DC Comics blockbuster, but Keaton, who played the Caped Crusader in two Tim Burton films in 1989 and 1992, insists he has yet to officially sign on.

“I am needing a minute to think about it because I’m so fortunate and blessed,” he tells Deadline in a new interview. “I got so much going on now. I’m really into work right now… To tell you the truth, somewhere on my iPad is an iteration of the whole Flash thing that I haven’t had time yet [to check]…”

“I called them and said, ‘I have to be honest with you, I can’t look at anything right now. I’m so deep into this thing I’m doing. Also, I’m prepping a thing I’m producing and getting ready to do down the road in the fall that I’ll be in, and I feel responsible to that’.”

“I’m not being cute or coy, but if I talked about it, I’ll be just bulls**tting you. I don’t really know. I have to look at the last draft. To be honest with you, you know what worries me more than anything about all this stuff…? It’s COVID.”

“I’m more concerned. I keep my eye more on the COVID situation in the U.K. than anything. That will determine everything… I’m staying away from everybody, because the COVID thing has got me really concerned. So, that’s my first thing about all projects. I look at it and go, ‘Is this thing going to kill me, literally?’ And you know, if it doesn’t, then we talk.”

Keaton adds, “I’m going to see what happens here… You want to say, like Joe Pesci from ‘My Cousin Vinny’…, ‘It’s a thing, but it’s not a thing’.”

The ‘Superman Returns’ actor, who recently reprised his role as the Man of Steel in ‘Crisis on Infinite Earths’ crossover, says everything is possible with his character.

    Nov 5, 2020
AceShowbiz – Brandon Routh has no reservations about his return as Superman, though the role has gone through another incarnation with Henry Cavill taking over the baton in the DCEU. Speaking in a new interview with the Geek House Show, the actor is open to the possibility of reprising the role in a Flash movie.
“I mean, that’s always a possibility,” Routh said of the potential for him to return in a DCEU movie. “And of course since they’re bringing back Michael Keaton, which I’m excited about, and some other people from past DC projects, I think it’s very exciting.”
Citing his Superman’s return in “Crisis on Infinite Earths” crossover on The CW’s Arrowverse, the “Superman Returns” star added, “It worked very well with ‘Crisis on Infinite Earths’, and I was extremely proud and honored to be a part of it and to reprise Superman, so it’s absolutely a possibility.”

While The Flash movie has been showing very little progress since it underwent director change several times from 2018 until 2019, it was recently reported that Michael Keaton was in talks to reprise his role as Batman in Ezra Miller’s standalone superhero film. The “Birdman” star first donned the cape and cowl for 1989’s “Batman” and its sequel “Batman Returns”.
According to TheWrap.com, Keaton’s return is made possible because the storyline will include multiverse, in which multiple versions of the same characters exist in alternate universes. It’s additionally noted that Keaton’s return as Batman won’t affect the plot outlined in Matt Reeves’ “The Batman” which stars Robert Pattinson in the title role.
As for Routh, he only got one chance to portray Superman on the big screen, after his 2006’s film “Superman Returns” received lukewarm response at Box Office despite majorly positive reviews from critics.

Ezra Miller's Chocking Video Might Cause 'The Flash' Movie Cancellation

    Warner Bros. Entertainment/Clay Enos

Words are Warner Bros. is considering canceling the long-gestating project, which has Miller attached to reprise his role as Barry Allen, after a viral video showed the actor choking and slamming a female fan.
    Apr 8, 2020
AceShowbiz – The long-gestating “The Flash” movie might be scrapped altogether, not because of creative issues which have been plaguing the development, but its star’s recent behavior. Ezra Miller, who is attached to reprise his role as Barry Allen a.k.a. the Scarlet Speedster, was recently caught choking and slamming a female fan in a viral video.
After news of Miller’s brutal violence made its way round the web. Warner Bros. is now reported considering to cancel the upcoming solo Flash movie. According to the Lords of The Long Box YouTube channel, a source at Warner Bros. says the video sent shockwaves throughout the company.
WB is reportedly wary of keeping Miller in the role as the bad publicity will haunt the solo film and any future appearances of him as The Flash in other films. The company is currently investigating the incident, which happened at a bar in Iceland when Miller was apparently drunk. The source claims the findings of the investigation will determine whether the company will cancel the movie or go on with the project.
The source further says that many executives at Warner Bros. are not excited about the project to begin with as it has been in development hell for years. They are allegedly quietly hoping to reboot The Flash, the same way it has done with Batman. It’s noted that while it will take a while before the decision is made, The Flash doesn’t look to have a bright future.
According to the source, the recent incident in Iceland might also affect Miller’s future involvement in “Fantastic Beasts 3”.
The video, which surfaced on Sunday night, April 5, showed Miller challenging the woman to a duel. “Oh, you wanna fight? That’s what you wanna do?” he’s heard saying when the excited female fan approached him. The 27-year-old star then grabbed the woman by the throat and pushed her towards the aisle truck parked right behind her, before throwing her on the ground.
Variety later confirmed that the video is real, with a source at the bar in Reykjavik, the Iceland capital, describing the incident as “a serious altercation.” The source, Prikid Kaffihus, identified the aggressor as Miller and said that the actor was escorted off the premises.
Following the incident, fans have taken to Twitter, demanding the actor be replaced with Grant Gustin in The Flash movie. “They should pull a Robert Pattinson and put Grant Gustin as the DCEU Flash,” one reacted to the news. Another weighed in, “Not so great news for Ezra; but maybe now Grant Gustin gets cast in the flash movie.”

The Flash Movie May Feature Maggie Gyllenhaal as Female Joker

    WENN

The upcoming Ezra Miller-starring movie to be directed by Andy Muschietti will reportedly include the ‘Flashpoint’ storyline that introduces a female version of Batman’s villain.
    Mar 7, 2020
AceShowbiz – The long-awaited Flash movie may feature Joker, but with a twist. Words are the upcoming film starring Ezra Miller as the Scarlet Speedster will introduce a female version of Batman’s famous supervillain.
Fans of DC Comics may not be surprised with the twist. In the “Flashpoint” timeline, after young Bruce Wayne was killed by Joe Chill, his parents went down very different paths. While Thomas Wayne became the violent vigilante Batman, Martha Wayne lost her sanity and became the female Joker.
We Got This Covered, which first came up with the report of the female Joker’s potential appearance in The Flash movie, additionally claims that Maggie Gyllenhaal is being eyed to play the role of Martha. “The Deuce” alum is no stranger to DC Comics universe, having starred as Rachel Dawes in “The Dark Knight”. Gyllenhaal is seemingly not the only one circling the part, but other potential contenders for the role are currently unknown.
This, however, should be taken with a grain of salt since neither Warner Bros. nor director Andy Muschietti has confirmed floating rumors about the movie’s details. The “It” helmer, who was tapped to replace John Francis Daley and Jonathan Goldstein as the helmer last July, once teased about the film, “What captivated me about the Flash is the human drama in it. The human feelings and emotions that play in the drama [of it]. It’s going to be fun, too. I can’t promise that there will be any horror [elements in it], really, but it’s a beautiful human story.”
His partner and sister Barbara Muschietti reportedly joins the project as producer. WB has not announced a start date for the principal photography as Muschietti said at last year’s San Diego Comic-Con that he would take a little time off after “It Chapter Two” before working on his next project.
