Courteney Cox Channels Her Inner Rapper and Drops Bars in Idris Elba's Music Video

The ‘Friends’ star makes a cameo appearance in a new music video where the ‘Pacific Rim’ actor and rapper Connor Price pay homage to the actress in a song named after her.

    Jan 29, 2021
AceShowbiz – Idris Elba has recruited former “Friends” star Courteney Cox for his latest music video.
The actress wrote and recorded a rap for the actor and DJ’s latest track, titled “Courteney Cox” – a collaboration with rapper Connor Price, who wrote the song after confessing to a lifelong crush on Cox.
The tune started out as a freestyle with Elba talking about his COVID battle last spring – he encouraged musicians to jump on the song with him and Price, a former child star, took on the challenge, and he and Elba became fast friends.
The “Cinderella Man” actor convinced Idris to turn their collaboration into an ode to his favourite Friends star – and Elba used his Hollywood connections to recruit Cox for the video. She added a rap, which became part of the tune.

“I kind of thought Idris was joking when he was like, ‘Hey, if we ever do this music video, we gotta get Courteney Cox.’ Then, surely enough, he’s Idris Elba. I thought, ‘He can probably make that happen.’ Idris’ publicist and someone from her team made that connection. We each sent her a one-minute video introducing ourselves, which was awkward to do…”
“We pretty much said who we were and sent her the song. We said, ‘There’s no disrespect towards you, we love you, and we’d love for you to hear the song and be involved in any way you want.’ She came back and liked it… That skit at the end and rap was entirely her idea. We originally came to her and was unsure how she’d react (sic).”

Idris adds, “She looped the instrumental herself. She got a musical background and a musical family. She plays the piano and stuff. She looped that, wrote that and we were like, ‘D**n, OK!’ It was funny, man.”

    WENN

The filming of ‘The Harder They Fall’ is stopped for the second time only a few weeks after resuming production following a break in March when Idris Elba star tested positive for the killer virus.

    Oct 18, 2020
AceShowbiz – The Netflix western that was forced to shut down in March (20) when leading man Idris Elba tested positive for COVID-19 has halted filming again following another health scare.
Production on “The Harder They Fall”, which also features Regina King, has stopped after an actor tested positive for the coronavirus, according to Deadline.
Filming on the project resumed in New Mexico last month (Sep20) and shut down on Thursday (15Oct20).
“The Harder They Fall” isn’t the only major production, which has been forced to shut down in recent weeks due to a positive test – “The Batman” and “Jurassic World: Dominion” are among the blockbusters forced to halt filming since the coronavirus restrictions were lifted and movie projects were able to start up again.

Elba was among the first Hollywood stars to publicly reveal he had contracted COVID-19, prompting producers to shut down filming as the Brit and his wife, Sabrina Dhowre Elba, self-isolated.
As Hollywood is struggling to adapt to post-coronavirus world since lockdown was first imposed earlier this year, filmmakers such as Martin Scorsese, Clint Eastwood, James Cameron, Christopher Nolan, Judd Apatow, Jon Chu, Sofia Coppola, Alfonso Cuaron, Patty Jenkins, and Michael Bay recently signed an open letter pleading with the congress to help bail out cinemas hit by the crisis.
Music industry and Broadway have also been impacted by pandemic. Numerous musicians are forced to put their tours on hold and delays their new music.
Similarly on the Great White Way, the productions were either halted or called off as the industry was brought to a standstill following lockdown. While many are determined to return to stage during the re-opening next year, some like “Frozen”, “Hangmen”, and “Who’s Afraid of Virginia Woolf?” have already announced they ended for good.

  • Idris Elba Is Against Censoring 'Racist' Contents on TV

    WENN

The ‘Mandela: Long Walk to Freedom’ actor says problematic contents should be accompanied with a warning instead of being censored or pulled out of television.
    Jul 15, 2020
AceShowbiz – Idris Elba has called on TV networks to avoid censoring shows with “racist” content, and instead introduce a rating system to educate viewers on outdated practices. In the wake of Black Lives Matter protests against systematic racism worldwide, sitcoms including “Little Britain”, which see stars Matt Lucas and David Walliams use blackface make-up in some sketches, were recently dropped from on demand services including Netflix.
“Golden Girls”, “The Office”, “Scrubs”, and “30 Rock” are among the shows that have also been impacted.
However, speaking to Radio Times magazine, Idris insisted he’s “very much a believer in freedom of speech,” and called on executives to introduce a ratings system warning viewers that a film or show has outdated, insulting viewpoints.
While not referring to a specific programme, he said, “To mock the truth, you have to know the truth. But to censor racist themes within a show, to pull it… I think viewers should know that people made shows like this.”
“Commissioners and archive-holders pulling things they think are exceptionally tone-deaf at this time – fair enough and good for you,” the star continued. “But I think, moving forward, people should know that freedom of speech is accepted, but the audience should know what they’re getting into.”
“I don’t believe in censorship,” the “In the Long Run” actor added. “I believe that we should be allowed to say what we want to say. Because, after all, we’re story-makers.”
During the chat, Idris also suggested that boosting diversity needs a change in attitude, reflecting, “Money helps… (But) it’s a shift in attitude, in perspective, in tolerance. And you can’t put an amount on that.”
