Elijah Wood and Patrick Schwarzenegger Clash on Twitter Over 'Indiana Jones 5' Casting Criticism

    WENN/Tony Forte

The ‘Lord of the Rings’ actor and the ‘Midnight Sun’ star are involved in a back-and-forth after the latter appears to question Phoebe Waller-Bridge’s casting in the upcoming Harrison Ford-starring movie.

    Apr 10, 2021

    AceShowbiz –
Elijah Wood may not be involved in “Indiana Jones 5” (“Indiana Jones V”) in any capacity, but he makes sure everyone knows that the project has got his full support. The actor has butted heads with Patrick Schwarzenegger to defend Phoebe Waller-Bridge’s casting in the movie.

It all started with Schwarzenegger’s apparent criticism over the addition of the “Fleabag” actress to the cast of the Harrison Ford-starring film. The son of actor and former California Governor Arnold Schwarzenegger wrote while retweeting the casting announcement, “I love Indiana Jones but just not sure about this.”

Taking it as an offense, Wood challenged the 27-year-old to explain why he opposed to Waller-Bridge’s casting. “not sure about what exactly? the mighty force of Phoebe Waller-Bridge? the brilliant James Mangold?” the Frodo Baggins of the “Lords of the Rings” film trilogy wrote back to the younger star.

Catching wind of Wood’s clapback, Schwarzenegger simply wrote, “Another film!” The “Midnight Sun” star seemingly wanted to clarify that he takes issue with the idea of making another “Indiana Jones” installment instead of with the talents billed for the movie.

Wood seemingly accepted Schwarzenegger’s explanation. “haha. fair!” he tweeted in reply, though he still keeps his hopes high for the upcoming movie as he added, “a chance for redemption is hopeful”.

Elijah Wood and Patrick Schwarzenegger had Twitter back-and-forth over ‘Indiana Jones 5’ casting news.

On Friday, April 9, Amblin Entertainment announced that Waller-Bridge would star in the untitled fifth “Indiana Jones” movie that will bring Ford back as the iconic archaeologist. “Logan” director James Mangold will take over the reins of the film series from Steven Spielberg, who will instead serve as a producer alongside longtime collaborator Frank Marshall and Lucasfilm President Kathleen Kennedy.

“I’m thrilled to be starting a new adventure, collaborating with a dream team of all-time great filmmakers,” Mangold said in a statement confirming he’s on board the project. “Steven, Harrison, Kathy, Frank, and John are all artistic heroes of mine. When you add Phoebe, a dazzling actor, brilliant creative voice and the chemistry she will undoubtedly bring to our set, I can’t help but feel as lucky as Indiana Jones himself.”

“Indiana Jones 5” is scheduled for July 29, 2022 release.

John Rhys-Davies Hints at His Return to New 'Indiana Jones' Movie

    Paramount Pictures

The actor who played Sallah in the first and third ‘Indiana Jones’ movies is keen to reprise his role in the upcoming fifth installment to be directed by James Mangold.

    Jan 7, 2021
AceShowbiz – John Rhys-Davies has hinted at an appearance in the forthcoming “Indiana Jones” sequel.
The 76-year-old actor played the role of Sallah in both “Raiders of the Lost Ark” and “Indiana Jones and the Last Crusade” and, speaking to ComingSoon.net, the star suggested he could reprise the role in the upcoming fifth movie.
Explaining he believes that the movie’s production won’t begin in May (21) as suggested due the coronavirus crisis, John said, “I understand the film is going to be made, allegedly in May.”
“I have the slightest skepticism that the world will be able to shoot a movie like that in May. I suppose it is possible that I will be asked to be in it. If nominated I will serve!”

“But I think we ought to wait a little bit longer and, you know, let our masters actually make announcements and then you can either share my joy or my disappointment. Is that suitably diplomatic?”
“Indiana Jones 5” is slated for release in 2022 and will see James Mangold take over as director from Steven Spielberg, who remains involved on the project as a producer.
Harrison Ford will once again play the iconic adventurer, with the screen legend previously insisting, “We’re determined to get it right before we get it made… We’re not going to make another Indiana Jones unless we’re in a position to kill it. We want it to be the best.”
The plot is still kept under tight wraps, but the upcoming movie is expected to “conclude” Indiana Jones’ journey.

Harrison Ford Teams Up With 'Logan' Director to Close Out Indiana Jones' Journey

    Paramount Pictures

The Han Solo of the ‘Star Wars’ film series is set to return for the fifth and final ‘Indiana Jones’ film that is currently in pre-production and will kick off production next spring.

    Dec 11, 2020
AceShowbiz – Harrison Ford is set to embark on his one last adventure as Indiana Jones. The actor has been confirmed to reprise his role as the title character in the upcoming fifth and final installment of the “Indiana Jones” film franchise.
Lucasfilm president Kathleen Kennedy brought the good news to fans during the 2020 Disney Investor Day presentation on Thursday, December 3. At the event, “Logan” helmer James Mangold was also announced to be on board to direct the film.
According to Kennedy, “Indiana Jones V” will “conclude this iconic character’s journey.” Reiterating her announcement, Disney tweeted, “Lucasfilm is in pre-production on the next installment of Indiana Jones. At the helm is James @Mang0ld, director of ‘Ford v Ferrari,’ and Indy himself, Harrison Ford, will be back to continue his iconic character’s journey.”
Filming is slated to kick off in spring 2021 for a July 2022 release date. There’s no word about Chris Pratt’s involvement in the project, although the “Guardians of the Galaxy” star was previously rumored to be attached to star in the fifth “Indiana Jones” movie.

Prior to the announcement at the Disney Investor Day presentation, producer Frank Marshall revealed that Mangold has been working on the script. He also assured that Ford will not be recast in the title role.
“Yeah, we are working on the script,” he told Den of Geek. “There will only be one Indiana Jones and that’s Harrison Ford. What I’m excited about with Jim is a great story. I think you see that in his movies like Ford vs Ferrari. It’s all about characters and telling a good story. So I’m excited to see what he comes up with. I haven’t seen (the script) yet so I don’t know what to tell you.”
The fourth “Indiana Jones” movie, “Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull”, featured Shia LaBeouf as Indy’s protege/son Mutt Williams. The film seemed to hint that Indy would pass the torch to his son, but Ford has been persistently against the idea.
“I think it just doesn’t work that way. And there’s definitely a distinction between passing the fedora and someone picking it up,” he said in 2008 of the final scene, which saw Indy’s iconic hat being blown away by wind and landed at Mutt’s feet, before Indy grabbed it out of Mutt’s hands and put it on his head again.
