    AceShowbiz –
Ryan Reynolds has killed two birds with one stone with his latest hilarious tweet. As he has been touted by fans to take on the role of Johnny Cage in “Mortal Kombat 2”, the Canadian-born actor has responded to the news by combining it with his reaction to the success of Mint Mobile.

In his Wednesday, April 28 tweet, the 44-year-old hunk posted a GIF of his face being edited into Johnny Cage’s image from the video game. The picture suggested that he has just knocked down his foe, with “Mint” and “Big Wireless” written on the video game health bars.

“What do I do with casting rumors and wireless competitors upset that @usnews just named @Mintmobile 2021’s best cell phone plan?” Reynolds wrote in the caption. He added, “Finish ’em!!”

The “Deadpool” star was bragging about Mint Mobile, the cellular service provider company which he co-owns, defeating its competitors on the list of best cell phone plans.

As for the “Mortal Kombat 2” casting rumors, Reynolds has been a popular pick to play Johnny Cage after the first movie hinted at his appearance in the hypothetical sequel. In the end of the martial arts fantasy film, Lewis Tan’s Cole Young is heading off to Hollywood where he may bump into the movie star.

Producer Todd Garner has also confirmed Cage’s appearance in the potential sequel and mentioned Reynolds as the kind of actor who might play the character. “Is it a cop out to all of a sudden have Ryan Reynolds – not him, but you know – as the lead felt a little disingenuous to me,” he said when addressing Cage’s exclusion in the first movie. “It’s super easy to bring him in a big, bombastic, fun way in the second. And he deserves that as a character. I love these characters, so we thought hard about it.”

“Mortal Kombat” has become the latest hit in North America box office following its release last week, debuting at No. 1 on the chart with $23.3 million despite not-so-glowing reviews from critics. The movie exceeded industry expectations with its opening gross and has accumulated $51.1 million worldwide.

The movie industry is slowly, but surely rebounding. After “Godzilla Vs. Kong” record-breaking debut gave away a hope of recovery in the business, this time “Mortal Kombat” and “Demon Slayer the Movie: Mugen Train” took the charge to boost the North American box office.

Both movies exceeded industry’s estimates to lead the chart with an impressive combined gross of approximately $42 million, doubling their pre-opening estimates. The live-action adaptation of the popular video game tops the rank with an estimated $22.5 million opening gross, while the big-screen version of the Japanese manga series trails close behind at No. 2 with an estimated $19.5 million.

“Mortal Kombat”, which is an R-rated martial arts film, added $27.6 million from international markets, bringing its worldwide cumulative total to $50.1 million. As for the animated dark fantasy period action film, it’s a box-office juggernaut overseas, accumulating $388.2 million internationally for a current global total of $407.7 million.

“Godzilla Vs. Kong” is forced to step down two ranks to No. 3 after three weeks leading the chart. The epic monster showdown movie added an estimated $4.2 million, bringing its current total domestic gross to $86.6 million.

First Red-Band Trailer of 'Mortal Kombat' Previews Bloody and Brutal Fights

    HBO Max

The age-restricted sneak peek also introduces the fighters in the mighty martial competition, Sonya Blade, Jax, Kano, Liu Kang and Kung Lao in addition to the lead character, Cole Young.

    Feb 19, 2021
AceShowbiz – The first official trailer for “Mortal Kombat” is here for fans’ viewing pleasure. Making its way out online, the age-restricted sneak peek is basked in bloody glory as it offers a glimpse at the brutal fights between the protagonists and the baddies.
The video features familiar characters, including Sonya Blade (Jessica McNamee), Kano (Josh Lawson), Jackson “Jax” Briggs (Mehcad Brooks), Liu Kang (Ludi Lin) and Kung Lao (Max Huang), in addition to introducing the new lead, Cole Young, who is portrayed by Lewis Tan. The video hints that Cole is unaware of his heritage or why Outworld’s Emperor Shang Tsung has sent his best warrior, Sub-Zero, an otherworldly Cryomancer, to hunt Cole down.
“Fearing for his family’s safety,” the washed-up mixed martial arts fighter “goes in search of Sonya Blade at the direction of Jax, a Special Forces Major who bears the same strange dragon marking Cole was born with,” the official synopsis reads. “Soon, he finds himself at the temple of Lord Raiden, an Elder God and the protector of Earthrealm, who grants sanctuary to those who bear the mark.”
The synopsis goes on describing, “Here, Cole trains with experienced warriors Liu Kang, Kung Lao, and rogue mercenary Kano, as he prepares to stand with Earth’s greatest champions against the enemies of Outworld in a high stakes battle for the universe. But will Cole be pushed hard enough to unlock his arcana — the immense power from within his soul — in time to save not only his family, but to stop Outworld once and for all?”
