Niall Horan Descends Into 'Toxic' Songwriting Phase During Lockdown

    Instagram

The One Direction member admits to writing ‘absolute, toxic, toxic stuff’ after releasing his second solo album on what he described as the ‘worst week in music history.’

    Nov 15, 2020
AceShowbiz – Niall Horan went through a phase of writing “toxic” songs after struggling with the disappointment of releasing an album at the height of the Covid-19 pandemic.
Niall debuted his second solo record, “Heartbreak Weather”, back in March – just as the world was heading into lockdown – in what he describes as the “worst week in music history.”
The “Slow Hands” hitmaker confesses he’s not quite been himself while writing music since, but is now rejuvenated and starting work on his next record.
“I’d like to release stuff next year, I doubt it would be this year, and just kind of writing some bits getting in the studio when I can here,” he tells Britain’s Music Week magazine. “I went through a stage of writing absolute, toxic, toxic stuff. I’m looking forward to kind of getting into the room with some people and recording some stuff.”

Explaining how he has gradually come to terms with writing in lockdown, he adds, “I started doing a bit of writing in the last sort of eight weeks or so and I didn’t want to force that at the start.”
“It was alright once I had my head wrapped around the fact that I wasn’t touring and the album was released on that particular time. I just realised, right we’re going to be in this for the long haul and kind of enjoyed the time at home.”
However, he’s determined to perform his next record on the road.
“I would like to come back with a bang,” Niall explains. “I don’t know if I’d like to just throw a song out in the middle of this. I like the idea of getting around the planet and I’ve learned that the hard way this year! So I would like the world to be at a point where I can get out about and do the promo.”

Niall Horan Shuts Down One Direction Reunion Rumors

    WENN

Niall Horan sets the record straight on the rumors suggesting he, Liam Payne, Louis Tomlinson, and Harry Styles are planning to get back together as a group.
    May 25, 2020
AceShowbiz – Niall Horan has urged One Direction fans to put the brakes on band reunion chatter, insisting there’s nothing planned.
Devotees are convinced Niall and his bandmates will be doing something special to mark their 10th anniversary, but the Irish singer has revealed there’s nothing on his calendar.
“We’ve barely spoken about it,” he tells Smallzy’s Surgery. ”It’s the 10-year anniversary coming up (and) we were chatting (to see) if there was anything we could release. We came to the conclusion there was nothing.”
His comments come after bandmate Liam Payne recently revealed he had been reprimanded for hinting at a comeback.
“I can’t say too much,” he explained. “Louis told me off for revealing a bit of our plans the other day. So you’re going to have the group telling me off on the group chat.”

Niall Horan Writes Love Song About Coronavirus Lockdown Romance

    WENN

The One Direction singer reveals he takes inspiration for the new love song he penned during lockdown from a classic ballad called ‘Hey There Delilah’ by the Plain White T’s.
    Apr 26, 2020
AceShowbiz – Niall Horan has penned a love ballad about what it’s like to try and start a romance in the middle of the coronavirus pandemic.
The Irish musician is holed up in London seeing out the crisis, having been forced to cancel his world tour due to lockdown restrictions limiting large gatherings in countries across the world.
However, Niall’s not wasting the enforced time as he’s practising his baking and penning new hits – including a social distancing love song that takes inspiration from the Plain White T’s “Hey There Delilah”, a ballad that tells the story of an unfulfilled transatlantic romance.
“I’m in London in my apartment, cooking – I’m making a Victoria sponge right now – and writing a lot: two songs yesterday,” the One Direction alumni tells The Guardian. “I had to cancel my tour, so I might as well go on the hunt for a big song. I started writing a Hey There Delilah-type one about when this is all over, called, well, ‘When This Is All Over’, and I was also writing about the idea of meeting someone without actually meeting them, and getting to know them because of this crisis.”
Niall, who is single after a split from Hailee Steinfeld but has been linked to stars including Selena Gomez, says that there are actually benefits to dating from afar.
“It’s an odd one: it’s actually a good way to get to know someone,” he adds. “Usually, say you went to a bar for a date, you’re probably drunk after five drinks and you forget everything you’ve learned about them. Now, you actually have time to ask questions. There’s no romances as of yet, but I wouldn’t mind if they started to blossom.”

Niall Horan Takes Fans Behind the Scenes in New Music Video for 'Black and White'

    [embedded content]

Coming off of ‘Heartbreak Weather’, the single itself was written by the One Direction member with Julian Bunetta, Teddy Geiger, Alexander Izquierdo and Scott Harris.
    Apr 22, 2020
AceShowbiz – Niall Horan has treated fans to a music video for his love song “Black and White”. One month after releasing his second solo album “Heartbreak Weather”, the One Direction member offered a behind-the-scene look at his studio and stage preparation through the brand new visual.
Released on Tuesday, April 21, the more-than-three-minute promo unveils a montage of grainy footage that sees the 26-year-old Irish singer-songwriter being on the road. It also gives a sneak peek at him singing the song in the studio, doing a photo shoot and goofing off backstage.
In the chorus of the single, the ex-boyfriend of Hailee Steinfeld could be heard sweetly crooning, “Yeah, I see us in black and white/ Crystal clear on a starlit night/ In all your gorgeous colors / I promise that I’ll love you for the rest of my life/ See you standing in your dress/ I swear in front of all our friends/ There’ll never be another/ I promise that I’ll love you for the rest of my life.”
“Black and White” was written by the “This Town” hitmaker along with Teddy Geiger, Julian Bunetta, Scott Harris and Alexander Izquierdo. Produced by Bunetta, it is one of the tracks included in “Heartbreak Weather” which has since its debut in mid-March given him his first British number one as a solo artist.
Sharing his thought on the success of his follow-up to his 2017 debut “Flicker”, the “Nice to Meet Ya” singer admits that the whole acknowledgment is a “huge” achievement for him. He added, “I spent 14 months on this album and to have it received like this is just incredible for me.”
In support of his sophomore album, Niall initially planned to go on an extensive “Nice to Meet Ya” world tour with Lewis Capaldi. He, however, scrapped the dates because of the coronavirus pandemic. “This was a difficult decision, but the wellbeing of my fans and touring family is always my top priority,” he said in his Instagram announcement.

“Not being able to tour for what is effectively most of 2020 just didn’t feel right and I’m so sorry to all you amazing people who bought tickets. I look forward to being able to bring new music and a new tour for all of my fans around the world in 2021,” he added. “I want to announce new dates soon but I don’t think it’s fair on you guys to do so until the dust has settled and things have gone back to normal.”

Artist of the Week: Niall Horan

The One Direction member recently released his second studio album entitled ‘Heartbreak Weather’, which opened at No. 4 on Billboard 200 and received positive reviews.
    Mar 30, 2020
AceShowbiz – Ever since One Direction went on an indefinite hiatus, the boys continued to prove their talent through their solo release. Among them is Niall Horan, whose debut single “This Town” was appealing to both the group’s fans and others thanks to his vocals and beautiful chorus. But that wasn’t the only song that helped him shine, as he recently released his second studio album “Heartbreak Weather”.
Hitting the stores on March 13, the album received generally positive reviews from music critics and did well on music charts. It opened at No. 4 on Billboard 200 and launched atop the Irish Albums Chart and the U.K. Albums Chart. Meanwhile, its lead single “Nice to Meet Ya” peaked at No. 1 on U.K. Singles Chart and was certified silver in the country.
Described as a perfect mix of alternative rock and pop, Niall said of the song in an interview, “I was out one night and locked eyes with this girl. We got chatting, and she was with a group of her mates and I was with a group of my mates. It felt like every time I turned around — like the lyric says — she just kind of disappeared. But then over the course of the same night, in different bars around that same area, we would bump into each other.”
In support of the album, the British heartthrob is set to embark on a tour called “Nice to Meet Ya Tour” this year. Its North American leg is scheduled to open on April 20 at the Bridgestone Arena in Nashville and wrap up on May 20 at SAP Center in San Jose. He will resume the tour in Australia in September and conclude it in Mexico in December. Lewis Capaldi, Fletcher and Maisie Peters are set to open the tour.

Niall Horan Gets First U.K. No.1 Solo Album With 'Heartbreak Weather'

Days after fearing that coronavirus would nix his chances of having his sophomore effort to debut on top, the One Direction member calls the accomplishment ‘incredible.’
    Mar 21, 2020
AceShowbiz – Niall Horan’s second release, “Heartbreak Weather”, has topped the U.K. albums chart, landing him his first British number one as a solo artist.
The Irish singer was forced to celebrate his success at home as Brits self-isolate due to the coronavirus pandemic.
“It’s huge for me,” he said. “I spent 14 months on this album and to have it received like this is just incredible for me.”

Niall, who failed to reach the top of the U.K. charts with his 2017 debut “Flicker”, feared the COVID-19 lockdown would nix his chances of debuting at number one, telling fans on Instagram Live earlier this week: “I have really enjoyed doing the Instagram lives this week. I would obviously have preferred to have been on the relevant tv shows, in the radio stations etc, but being live from the comfort of my own living room has been really fun.”
“It’s been a great way to chat with the fans in their 10s of thousands and see their reactions to the album.”

The One Direction star’s tourmate, Lewis Capaldi, stays put at two with “Divinely Uninspired to a Hellish Extent”, and British country duo The Shires are at three with “Good Days”.

British indie rockers Circa Waves enter the chart at four with “Sad Happy”, and Lil Uzi Vert’s album “Eternal Atake” completes the top five.
There’s also a new number one on the singles chart, as Saint Jhn’s “Roses” climbs a place to the top, pushing The Weeknd’s “Blinding Lights” down to two.

    WENN/Avalon

The One Direction member and the ‘Come Close’ rapper are the latest artists who entertain their fans online by putting shows from the comfort of their home.
    Mar 20, 2020
AceShowbiz – Pop star Niall Horan and rapper Common joined in the “Together, At Home” concert series on Thursday, March 19 by performing acoustic shows for fans online during the coronavirus lockdown.
Coldplay’s Chris Martin kickstarted the World Health Organization (WHO) and Global Citizen event on Monday, beaming his 30-minute set into viewers’ homes via Instagram Live, and John Legend kept the entertainment going on Tuesday, with his model and TV personality wife, Chrissy Teigen, and their two kids making appearances onscreen.
Singer Charlie Puth picked up the virtual baton on Wednesday, and on Thursday, fans were treated to a double set by Niall and Common.
The One Direction star was first up on Instagram Live for the “Together, At Home: WHO-Global Citizen Solidarity Sessions”, belting out tracks from his new album, “Heartbreak Weather”, as he sat by his piano with a guitar.
As he wrapped up the intimate show, Horan apologised for any imperfect vocals, admitting his isolation routine had not included regular vocal exercises – as he was spending much of his down time “watching a lot of Netflix.”

“Apologies for my voice, I haven’t been doing too much singing recently,” he shared, before adding a stern warning to viewers about personal hygiene during the COVID-19 crisis: “Stay safe, wash your hands! Don’t be foolish about this!”

Niall Horan Channels Ron Burgundy to Reveal 'Heartbreak Weather' Tracklist

Donning a burgundy suit and pink turtleneck in a similar fashion to Will Ferrell’s character in ‘Anchorman’, the British singer cleverly delivers the song titles off his upcoming album.
    Feb 21, 2020
AceShowbiz – Niall Horan has gone quirky for the reveal of the tracklist for “Heartbreak Weather”. On Thursday, February 20, the One Direction member released a special video wherein he channeled Will Ferrell’s Ron Burgundy from “Anchorman” to unveil the 14 new song titles off his upcoming second solo album.
In the two-minute clip, the 26-year-old Irish singer donned pink turtleneck under a burgundy suit and transformed into an alter ego named Niall Storm. “Thank you so much for tuning into ‘Heartbreak Weather.’ This crazy little thing they call love isn’t ‘Black And White’ after all, and neither is this crazy little thing they call weather. So be sure to exercise your ‘Dear Patience,’ ” he began.
The ex-boyfriend of Hailee Steinfeld went on to name another track as he quipped, “Remember, these falling blocks of ice just don’t ‘Bend the Rules,’ they break your windshield, too.” He continued on, “Temperatures will be falling and so will the snow. So expect to see some ‘New Angels’ being made all over the city.”
Horan’s fake weather report further unveiled such tracks as “Arms of Stranger”, “Everywhere”, “Nice To Meet Ya”, “Put A Little Love On Me”, “Cross Your Mind”, “No Judgement”, “San Francisco” and “Still” are also making it into his new records.
    [embedded content]
“Heartbreak Weather” is a follow-up to Horan’s 2017 solo debut, “Flicker”. It is set to be released on March 13. Some of its tracks, “No Judgement”, “Nice to Meet Ya” and “Put a Little Love on Me”, have been previously released, but its title track is suggested to be released on February 28.
Speaking about how he came up with the LP title, Horan opened up in an interview with iHeart Radio’s Most Requested Live, “Heartbreak Weather was the first thing that I ever wrote down. “When I started, [I was] like, ‘How do I write a break-up album that doesn’t sound sobby throughout, and really selfish?’ So I just wrote down the phrase ‘heartbreak weather,’ I don’t know where it came from…”
