    Lucasfilm

Gearing up for its production, the Disney Plus series unveils Kumail Nanjiani, Rupert Friend, O’Shea Jackson, Jr., Sung Kang, Benny Safdie, Moses Ingram and Simone Kessell among the cast ensemble.

    Mar 30, 2021

    AceShowbiz –
Actor Joel Edgerton is reprising his role as Uncle Owen Lars in the upcoming “Star Wars” spin-off series about Obi-Wan Kenobi.

“The Great Gatsby” star portrayed a younger version of the character in 2002’s “Star Wars: Episode II – Attack of the Clones”, and its sequel, “Star Wars: Episode III – Revenge of the Sith” in 2005, and now he’s signed up to return as Lars, the stepbrother of Anakin Skywalker, aka Darth Vader, played in the prequel films and the planned “Obi-Wan” series by Hayden Christensen.

Bonnie Piesse, who previously appeared as Edgerton’s onscreen wife, Beru Lars, is also stepping back into the “Star Wars” Universe, while other new additions to the cast of the Disney+ show include Kumail Nanjiani, Rupert Friend, O’Shea Jackson Jr., Sung Kang, Benny Safdie, Moses Ingram, Simone Kessell, and Indira Varma, whose involvement was announced earlier this month (March 2021).

Production on “Obi-Wan Kenobi”, starring Ewan McGregor as the titular Jedi, is set to begin in April, with the story set 10 years after the events of “Revenge of the Sith”. Deborah Chow, who took charge of two season one episodes of “The Mandalorian”, will direct the new series.

McGregor and Chow will share their executive producer role with Kathleen Kennedy, Michelle Rejwan and writer Joby Harold.

Back in October 2020, McGregor spilled a bit about the spin-off series during a Zoom appearance on “The Graham Norton Show”. While not revealing much, he stated at the time, “It’s the Obi-Wan Kenobi story, I suppose. It’s not all me, but it certainly will be a lot of me, which is good.”

    Lucasfilm

The actor, who found fame with his portrayal of Anakin Skywalker in ‘Star Wars: Episode II – Attack of the Clones’, is joining Ewan McGregor in the spin-off series from Disney Plus.

    Dec 11, 2020
AceShowbiz – Hayden Christensen is reprising his Darth Vader character for the upcoming “Obi-Wan Kenobi Star Wars” spin-off series.
The Disney+ sci-fi drama, in which Ewan McGregor will be returning as the Jedi sage, is currently in production, and the big casting news was revealed by Disney bosses on Thursday (December 10).
“Hayden Christensen returns as Darth Vader, joining Ewan McGregor in OBI-WAN KENOBI,” an official Twitter statement reads. “The Original Series begins 10 years after the dramatic events of Revenge of the Sith, and is coming to #DisneyPlus.”

“The most beautiful thing of all,” McGregor wrote as the news was confirmed.
Christensen was an unknown when he was cast as Anakin Skywalker – the father of Luke and Princess Leia – in “Star Wars: Episode II – Attack of the Clones”. He reprised the role in “Star Wars: Episode III – Revenge of the Sith”, the film in which Anakin turned to the dark side and became one of the movie world’s most feared villains.
The casting news comes a week after the death of British actor Dave Prowse, who played Darth Vader in the first three “Star Wars” movies.
Meanwhile, Disney+ bosses are also developing a “Star Wars” spin-off series based on “The Empire Strikes Back” and “Star Wars: The Last Jedi” character Lando Calrissian, created by “Dear White People” creator Justin Simien.
It’s not clear who will lead the cast of Lando. Donald Glover and Billy Dee Williams have both played the character on the big screen.

  • Ewan McGregor Says Obi Wan Kenobi Series Will Kick Off Production in March 2021

    Walt Disney Pictures

The ‘Trainspotting’ actor is expected to start filming his ‘Star Wars’ spin-off series next year following a delay due to the ongoing coronavirus pandemic.
    Oct 10, 2020
AceShowbiz – Ewan McGregor has confirmed he’s to start filming his “Obi Wan Kenobi Star Wars” spin-off series in March (21).
The British actor was originally due to reprise his role as a younger version of Luke Skywalker’s Jedi mentor from the original “Star Wars” movie, one he played in the prequel films, for a Disney+ series this year (20).
The show was pushed back until 2021 in January and, amid the Covid-19 pandemic, Ewan has revealed filming is now scheduled to begin in March.

“It is the Obi Wan Kenobi story I suppose – it’s not just me in it, but there will certainly be a lot of me!” he told U.K. chat show host Graham Norton of the series.
“I’m wracking my brains about what I’m meant to say and what I can’t say about it. What I can say is that we start filming in March next year.”
Asked about how he felt taking over the role from Alec Guinness, who played the character in “Star Wars: A New Hope” – the film that kicked off the beloved science-fiction franchise in 1977 – the “Trainspotting” actor said he had studied Alec’s work before appearing in the prequels.
“I am a huge fan and had a great time studying him through his early films,” the 49-year-old explained. “It is a fun thing to try and imagine him as a young guy. I am getting much closer in age to him so it will be my challenge to try and meet him somewhere.”

'John Wick' Producer Enlisted to Rewrite 'Obi-Wan Kenobi' Series Script

    Lucasfilm

Joby Harold is entrusted by Disney to revise the script for the upcoming Ewan McGregor-fronted project because the story is similar to that of another Star Wars series ‘The Mandalorian’.
    Apr 5, 2020
AceShowbiz – The “Star Wars Obi-Wan Kenobi” spin-off has just been handed the big guns – “John Wick: Chapter 3 – Parabellum” executive producer Joby Harold has been hired to revamp the script.
The upcoming Disney+ series, featuring Ewan McGregor as the Star Wars sage, was halted back in January to allow film bosses to “rethink” the story.
Multiple sources claimed the script was too similar to that of last year’s 2019 Disney+ hit “The Mandalorian”, whose director, Deborah Chow, is on board to oversee the Obi-Wan series.
