Billy Porter Struggling to Say Goodbye to 'Pose' Because the Show 'Healed' Him

    FX Networks

The ‘Kinky Boots’ star describes the cancellation of his hit television show as ‘bittersweet’ because he found starring on the groundbreaking series very healing for him.

    May 1, 2021

    AceShowbiz –
Actor Billy Porter is struggling to say goodbye to his hit show “Pose” because it really healed him.

The groundbreaking programme, created by Ryan Murphy, Steven Canals, and Gwyneth Paltrow’s husband Brad Falchuk, is set amid New York City’s gender-nonconforming drag ball culture scene and shot the flamboyant entertainer, who played Pray Tell, to stardom.

As the Emmy winner prepares for the launch of Pose’s third and final season, Billy admits he will always consider the show “a gift” because he was able to “heal” while making it.

“It’s bittersweet,” he shares of bidding farewell to “Pose”, “but I will say what a gift it has been, as a person who lived through the AIDS crisis and made it to the other side, to be able to go back and revisit that time, and in this new pandemic time remind the world that there is hope, there is joy, that there is love, and if we can just come together and get to the other side, it’s going to be OK.”

“There’s a healing inside of this season I think that the world is ready to receive and I’m just so grateful… to be called to tell this particular story,” he continues on America’s “Live with Kelly and Ryan”.

“It has been life-changing… I think, you know, it’s about closing one chapter and the rebirth of me personally, Billy. You know, I’ve been able to grow through Pray Tell, I’ve been able to heal through the character of Pray Tell, and Pose in general.”

“And I’m ready to embrace now telling a different story, moving forward as Billy, so I’m really, really, truly grateful for this…”

“I’m ready for all of the good things,” adds the star.

The final season of “Pose” debuts on America’s FX network on 2 May.

'Pose' Bidding Farewell With Upcoming Third Season

    FX

Billy Porter and his co-stars won’t be back for another season when the upcoming third installment of their hit television drama series comes to an end.

    Mar 6, 2021
AceShowbiz – Ryan Murphy and Brad Falchuk’s hit TV drama “Pose” is to end after its upcoming third season.
The acclaimed show, starring Billy Porter, will return to the small screen in May for seven final episodes.
“We got to tell the exact story we wanted, as we wanted to tell it, and I’m incredibly honored and grateful,” co-creator Murphy said in a statement Friday (05Mar21).

Co-creator Steven Canals adds, ” ‘Write the TV show you want to watch!’ That’s what I was told in 2014, while completing my MFA in screenwriting. At the time we weren’t seeing very many black and Latinx characters – that happened to also be LGBTQ+ – populating screens. And so I wrote the first draft of a pilot the ‘younger me’ deserved.”
“Pose was conceived as a love letter to the underground N.Y. ballroom community, to my beloved New York, to my queer and trans family, to myself. I, along with my incredible collaborators, never intended on changing the TV landscape. I simply wanted to tell an honest story about family, resilience and love. How fortunate am I to have done that for three seasons.”
“I’m filled with gratitude to our intrepid writers, cast, crew, and producers who worked tirelessly to make Pose come to life, humbled by our loyal audience, thankful to the ballroom community who trusted us to tell their story, overwhelmed by the critics who warmly embraced us, and forever indebted to Ryan Murphy… for changing my life.”

Billy Porter Admits 'Pose' Team Still Tries to Figure Out Filming Drag Ball Scenes Amid COVID-19

    FX

When appearing on ‘Live with Kelly and Ryan’, the Pray Tell depicter opens up about the complications brought by the pandemic to the season 3 production of Ryan Murphy’s hit TV series.

    Dec 29, 2020
AceShowbiz – “Pose” season three’s wild ball scenes have been booted to 2021 in the hope the flamboyant events can be freely filmed under a COVID “vaccine situation”, according to star Billy Porter.
Ryan Murphy’s hit TV series is set in 1987 against the backdrop of New York City’s drag ball scene, and though it is back in production, current coronavirus protocols do not permit some of the show’s large-scale scenes to be shot.
“We are shooting season three right now with all of the COVID protocols in place,” Billy shares on “Live with Kelly and Ryan”. “It’s not the easiest version of filming a television show that I’ve ever been a part of… I’m just grateful to be back working.”

And though he’s desperate to get his finery on to film the show’s big balls, Billy supports the “Pose” producers’ efforts to find the best solution.
“We’re still trying to figure that part out,” he shares. “We haven’t shot any of the balls yet… I believe we are waiting for the ball sequences, to hopefully be shooting them inside some kind of vaccine situation so we can have all those people in the room. So we’re pushing those scenes to next year.”
Billy will ring in the new year in style – he’s co-hosting America’s annual TV special, “Dick Clark’s Rockin’ New Year’s Eve”, with Lucy Hale and Ryan Seacrest, live from New York’s Times Square on Thursday, December 31.
“Pose” revolves around New York City’s African-American and Latino LGBTQ and gender-nonconforming drag ball culture scene in the 1980s and, in the second season, early 1990s. Jeremy Pope will be joining the cast in the third season, which has yet to get a premiere date.

  • Indya Moore and Angelica Ross React to 'Pose' Emmy Snubs

    Instagram

Angelica reacts to her being snubbed by the Television Academy in an emotional video on Instagram, though she tells her followers that her tears are ‘not about an award or nominees.’
    Jul 29, 2020
AceShowbiz – The 2020 Emmy Awards had announced its nominations on Tuesday, July 27 and fans noticed that some favorites were missing from the list. Among them were “Pose” trans cast members Indya Moore and Angelica Ross. Both actors unsurprisingly felt some type of way regarding the snubs, prompting them to address the matter on social media.
Indya, who play Angel on the awards-winning series, expressed their disappointment on their Twitter account. “I cNt tell nobody I deserve their sht. I didn’t invent the academy or any of the award shows. If they think my work is unworthy Chile that’s just that,” so they wrote on Tuesday.
Seemingly insinuating that they don’t need validation from cis people, Indya continued in a separate post, “Imagine if we depended on cis ppl to validate anything about us.”
Gushing over the show’s production team, they added, “Fam, ‘ We ‘ came a long way. Ever grateful @MrRPMurphy pushing us thru. Ya’ll look what @StevenCanals, a black puerto Rican from the Bronx did gurl. He said our culture is a sensation and he gagged the whole earth and wrote Pose.”

Indya Moore ranted on Twitter following Emmy snub.
Meanwhile, Angelica reacted to her being snubbed by the Television Academy in an emotional video on Instagram. Although she shed tears, Angelica told her followers that her tears were “not about an award or nominees.” Instead, it was more about a bigger issue.
“Ultimately, I need you to understand that I am so tired,” she shared. “Because those of you that know me know that I’m not just working in front of the screen or behind the lens or whatever. I’m working around the clock to get our society to value trans lives and Black trans lives. And listen, I feel what I feel because I feel like there is nothing we can do.”

Indya and Angelica are not the only high-profiles that are omitted in this year’s nominations. Also being shut out are Larry David, Elisabeth Moss, Bob Odenkirk and Reese Witherspoon among others.
