Rege-Jean Page Admits Reports About Him Losing 'Krypton' Role Due to Skin Color 'Hurt'

    Instagram

After a representative of former DC Entertainment President and Chief Creative Officer Geoff Johns offers clarification regarding the story, the ‘Bridgerton’ alum claims it still ‘hurts no less now than it did back then.’

    Apr 8, 2021

    AceShowbiz –
Rege-Jean Page has responded to reports about him losing a role on “Krypton” because of his race. One day after he was unveiled to have been rejected from the Syfy series because he is black, the former “Bridgerton” star admitted the news still “hurts” him.

“Hearing about these conversations hurts no less now than it did back then. The clarifications almost hurt more tbh,” the 31-year-old hunk wrote on Twitter on Wednesday, April 7. “Still just doing my thing. Still we do the work. We still fly.”

Page has since received supportive comments from his online devotees. One in particular replied, “They did no Justice even when it was a Superman show. You deserved better. Glad you has a second chance to shine.” Another penned, “This is DC’s loss! Really bad decision. Frankly, they don’t deserve you and ‘Krypton’ will not be on my ‘to see’ list. Bigger and better…bring it on!”

Page’s post came after The Hollywood Reporter published an article that claimed he was passed over to play Superman’s grandfather on the Syfy series due to his skin color. Former DC Entertainment President and Chief Creative Officer Geoff Johns allegedly argued that “Superman could not have a Black grandfather.” He also reportedly shut down an idea to make character Adam Strange gay or bisexual on the show.

Johns’ representative, however, has denied the claims via email. “[Johns] celebrates and supports LGTBQ characters, including ‘Batwoman’, who in 2006 was re-introduced as LGBTQ in a comic-book series co-written by Johns,” the rep first pointed out.

The representative further noted, “Johns also pitched Warners on developing a television show around the first LGBTQ lead DC superhero television series.” As for why Page did not get the role, the rep explained that “Johns believed that fans wanted the character to look like a young Henry Cavill.”

Rege-Jean Page Justifies His 'Bridgerton' Departure

    Netflix/Liam Daniel

Upon learning the actor’s exit from the hit Netflix series, Dionne Warwick expresses her disappointment on Twitter and jokingly threatens to ‘call Lady Whistledown’ to get him back on the show.

    Apr 5, 2021

    AceShowbiz –
Rege-Jean Page believed that leaving “Bridgerton” was the right decision for him. After he was unveiled to have exited the Netflix hit series just after one season, the Duke of Hastings Simon Basset depicter elaborated the reason of his departure.

“It’s a one-season arc. It’s going to have a beginning, middle, end – give us a year,” the 31-year-old hunk spilled to Variety, insisting that his time on the show was meant to be short-lived. “[I thought] ‘That’s interesting,’ because then it felt like a limited series. I get to come in, I get to contribute my bit and then the Bridgerton family rolls on.”

While acknowledging that fans might be saddened by his exit, Page was convinced that “the audience knows the arc completes.” He then added, “They come in knowing that, so you can tie people in emotional knots because they have that reassurance that we’re going to come out and we’re going to have the marriage and the baby.”

Despite leaving the show, the British-Zimbabwean actor hopes that “Bridgerton” will maintain its success. “I have nothing but excitement for ‘Bridgerton’ continuing to steam train off and conquer the globe,” he claimed. “But there is also value in completing these arcs and sticking the landing.”

Page previously bid farewell to the series via Instagram. “The ride of a life time. It’s been an absolute pleasure and a privilege to be your Duke. Joining this family – not just on screen, but off screen too. Our incredibly creative and generous cast, crew, outstanding fans – it’s all been beyond anything I could have imagined. The love is real and will just keep growing,” he stated.

Dionne Warwick was saddened by Rege-Jean Page’s departure from ‘Bridgerton’.

Upon hearing Page will not be returning for “Bridgerton” season 2, Dionne Warwick expressed her disappointment on her Twitter account. She first argued, “No, @regejean! You CANNOT leave me like that. I WILL NOT have it! @bridgerton!!!!!!” She then quipped in another tweet, “I guess I need to call Lady Whistledown myself…”

Rege-Jean Page Won't Return for 'Bridgerton' Season 2

    Netflix

The actor who plays the Duke of Hastings is announced to leave the Netflix steamy period drama series following his ‘triumphant’ performance in the first season.

    Apr 3, 2021

    AceShowbiz –
Break-out “Bridgerton” star Rege-Jean Page will not return as Simon, Duke of Hastings for the second season of the hit Netflix period drama.

The Brit became an overnight sensation when Bridgerton debuted on Christmas Day (25Dec20), but he won’t be back.

The news was announced in a post on Friday (02Apr21), written by the series’ fictional gossip columnist Lady Whistledown.

“While all eyes turn to Lord Anthony Bridgerton’s quest to find a Viscountess, we bid adieu to Rege-Jean Page, who so triumphantly played the Duke of Hastings,” Lady Whistledown wrote.

“We’ll miss Simon’s presence onscreen, but he will always be a part of the Bridgerton family. (Phoebe Dyvenor’s character) Daphne will remain a devoted wife and sister, helping her brother navigate the upcoming social season and what it has to offer – more intrigue and romance than my readers may be able to bear.”

The first season ended with Daphne happily married to the Duke of Hastings.

The series, narrated by Dame Julie Andrews as Lady Whistledown, is inspired by the book franchise of the same name by Julia Quinn, with season two based on the 2000 novel, “The Viscount Who Loved Me”.

Quinn’s fictional series features eight books, with each story revolving around the love life of each Bridgerton sibling.

Before Rege-Jean Page was announced to leave the show, creator Chris Van Dusen said he would love to bring the actor back for season two in some capacity.

“I hope so. They are now, of course, the Duke and Duchess of Hastings, but in my mind they will always be Bridgertons and I think they will always be part of the show.”

Rege-Jean Page Says 'Bridgerton' Fame Left Him 'Scared' and He Explains Why

    Netflix/Barnaby Boulton

The ‘For the People’ actor talks about his role and intimate scenes on the new Netflix period drama series and how the show’s huge success left him apprehensive.

    Feb 6, 2021
AceShowbiz – Rege-Jean Page had no problems shooting his “Bridgerton” sex scenes with co-star Phoebe Dynevor thanks to the couple’s on-set intimacy co-ordinator.
The consultant was on hand for every racy scene, making sure both Page and Dynevor were comfortable.
“Everything is choreographed,” Rege-Jean tells U.K. talk show host Graham Norton. “It takes the risk and the embarrassment out of the scene.” Although some of the star’s family tried to dodge his sex scenes, they took up so much screen time, it proved impossible.

Asked if his relatives watched him making love to Phoebe, he said, “There were some cousins missing from the family WhatsApp group and they said, ‘We made our tactical cups of tea when you started and when we came back you were still going!’ ”
Following the popularity of “Bridgerton”, Rege-Jean has been tipped to be the next James Bond but he refused to be drawn on any speculation, joking, “Bridgerton is the only ‘B’ word I am allowed to say. I am not going to talk about the other ‘B’ words!”
Meanwhile, the actor joked the attention he’s received from the show has made him “scared” of who might approach him while the U.K. is in lockdown.
He said, “It’s just me and the four walls and I don’t go to the front door because I am scared. You don’t know who’s going to be there. It’s the only thing that is real about the whole thing!”

Colorist Comment on 'Bridgerton' Actor Rege-Jean Page Makes 'Summer House' Star Issue Apology

    WENN/Instagram/Sheri Determan

Reality TV star Paige DeSorbo regrets the way she described the British actor based on his skin tone when expressing her support for him to be the next James Bond.

    Jan 20, 2021
AceShowbiz – Rege-Jean Page has found himself at the center of controversy albeit having no part in making the mistake. The actor has got an apology from “Summer House” star Paige DeSorbo after she made colorist remark about the Brit stud.
Realizing that the way she “described an actor’s skin tone when describing his appearance” could be interpreted as “offensive” to others, the reality TV star has issued an apology. “I wanted to take time to sincerely apologize to anyone that I may have offended,” the Bravo star said in the Sunday, January 17, episode of her “Giggly Squad” podcast.
“It was not my intention and I recognize [that] what I said was wrong,” she added, before promising to be better. “I am completely committed to learning and growing, so I just wanted to take time today and sincerely apologize for my words from last week. I’m very sorry.”

Paige’s co-host and fellow Summer House star Hannah Berner also took responsibility for not calling out Paige right away over the remark. “Because we are the Giggly Squad and we are a team, I also want to apologize for not saying anything in the moment,” the 29-year-old said. “But as the Giggly Squad, we own our s**t and we are committed to [continuing] to learn – also to unlearn – and to [continuing] to grow.”
Hannah claimed that she and Paige were on a “journey to educate ourselves” and recommended that their fans, who also want to educate themselves on the issue, watch a documentary called “Dark Girls”. “It’s beautifully made and we can’t just recommend it enough, especially if you want to further educate yourself,” she described it.
Paige previously weighed in on rumors that Rege has been touted by fans as the next James Bond following the success of his Netflix series “Bridgerton”. Showing her support for the actor’s casting, the New York native said in an episode of her podcast he would make a great Bond because “he’s real British [and] he’s light-skinned.”

'Bridgerton' Star Rege-Jean Page Reacts to James Bond Rumors

    Instagram

The ‘For the People’ actor is flattered to be linked to the James Bond movie following his role on the Netflix period drama as he considers it a ‘merit badge.’

    Jan 12, 2021
AceShowbiz – Rege-Jean Page has put an end to rumours of a romance with his “Bridgerton” co-star Phoebe Dynevor.
The pair star as Simon Basset and Daphne Bridgerton in the Netflix period drama, which has been a massive hit worldwide since its release. Their intimate relationship on screen has led to speculation they might be an item in real life, but Page was quick to shoot down the rumours during an interview with Access Hollywood.
“I think that everything you need to know is on camera,” he laughed. “The sparky words, scripts and material are more than enough.”

      See also…

Page’s admission about his relationship with Phoebe came after he also opened up about reports he’s in the running to take over from Daniel Craig as the next James Bond, after bookmakers’ odds were slashed for him to take on the part.
“I think there might be an element of cultural translation to be done here,” he said. “Like if you’re a Brit, and you do something of any kind of renown, that people regard well, then people start saying the ‘B’ word (Bond). It’s like a merit badge, you get the ‘B’ word merit badge.”
“But I don’t think it’s much more than that. I’m very, very glad to have the badge. I’m glad to be in such wonderful company of people who have the badge. But it’s a badge.”
The new TV series is produced by Shonda Rhimes. It’s one of her projects for Netflix following her departure from ABC after working for the Alphabet for 15 years.

'Bridgerton' Star Rege-Jean Page Rises as Contender for New James Bond

    Instagram

The Duke of Hastings depicter first fueled the speculation that he was in the running for the role of the secret agent with his social media post, in which he made a reference to Bond’s martini preference.

    Jan 7, 2021
AceShowbiz – Rege-Jean Page has entered the ring of competition to be the new James Bond. The British-Zimbabwean actor’s name has been thrown in the list of possible actors to replace Daniel Craig as the 007 agent in future installment(s) of the spy film franchises following the success of his Netflix series “Bridgerton”.
The Duke of Hastings of the period drama has increased his odds of taking on the role of the super spy, according to British betting firm Ladbrokes. As reported by Variety, Page is now just 5/1 in the betting with Ladbrokes to replace Craig as Bond, having previously been 40/1 before Christmas.
“Tom Hardy still leads the way as favorite, with James Norton close behind in second place,” Ladbrokes representative Alex Apati tells the site. “But it really is all to play for in the race for 007 and RJP has a great chance if the odds are anything to go by.”
Noting that this kind of shift in the odds isn’t uncommon in the wake of a successful show, Apati cites a previous example, “It’s the reason Cillian Murphy was once favorite during the peak of ‘Peaky Blinders’.” He goes on explaining, “All of those aforementioned names have seen their odds slashed immediately after a huge hype around the show they most recently starred in, hence why it’s no surprise to see a similar pattern with Rege-Jean Page.”
He adds, “However, what strengthens RJP’s chances somewhat more is that an announcement feels seemingly imminent [around] Daniel Craig’s replacement, so the timing of ‘Bridgerton’ success may well have worked in his favor.”

The actor himself stirred the speculation last month with his social media post. On December 19, Page shared promo clip of his hit drama “Bridgerton” featuring him in character, who is described as “equal parts desirable and scandalous.” He captioned it with, “Regency, royalty. Shaken and stirred,” which was a reference to how Bond likes his martini mixed.

A number of fans supported him as the next Bond, with one tweeting, “Watching Bridgerton and thinking that @regejean would make a brilliant new James Bond.” Another weighed in, “If @regejean is the new James Bond… I’ll actually watch a James Bond.”
When someone pointed out that Page may be a little young for the part, another fan insisted, “He’s 31, Craig was 38 on first Bond but I still think he’s perfect for the role. Great age for reboot.”
Prior to starring on “Bridgerton”, Page has already been known for his role as Chicken George on 2016’s miniseries “Roots”. He also starred as a regular cast member on ABC’s legal drama “For the People” from 2018 to 2019.
