    Instagram

Having kept fans entertained during the coronavirus shutdown, the ‘Trouble in Paradise’ singer plans to kick off the new leg of his Rufus-Retro-Wainwright-Spective! 2021 on January 8.

    Dec 1, 2020
AceShowbiz – Singer Rufus Wainwright is extending his virtual tour well into 2021 as he continues to revisit albums from his back catalogue for concert livestreams.
The musician has been keeping fans entertained during the coronavirus shutdown by performing his old releases in full and in chronological order from the comfort of his own home, and he plans to keep the weekly events going for a few more months.
He will kick off the new leg of his Rufus-Retro-Wainwright-Spective! 2021 on 8 January, when he will sing the first half of his 2007 album Release the Stars, and continue the tunes on 15 January.
“All Days are Nights: Songs for Lulu” will be performed in another pair of shows on 22 and 28 January, while he will follow that up with “Out of the Game” gigs on 5 and 12 February.
He will round out the trek with “Take All My Loves: 9 Shakespeare Sonnets” on 19 February, “Rufus at the Movies” (Soundtrack Songs) on 28 February, and belt out tracks from “Unfollow the Rules”, his recent Grammy-nominated release, on 4 and 12 March.

He will be joined by guitarist Brian Green and keyboardist/pianist Jacob Mann for the upcoming shows, and host a special guest for each date.
“I did not expect to have so much fun redoing my first four albums with Brian and Jacob on guitar and piano in October and November,” Rufus shares in a statement.
“So many songs I had not performed live in decades as I always thought they needed a large band but they actually hold up quite well in this very intimate living room setting.”
“I wasn’t sure how fans would react and whether anyone would buy tickets. Well, my fans have and I am incredibly grateful for their support and for the opportunity to go all the way on this road to my last album.”
“I am so excited that ‘Unfollow the Rules’ was just nominated for a Grammy and I would love to actually end this retrospective as a Grammy winner,” he adds. “But even without I feel I have won a lot through this experience.”

  • Rufus Wainwright Plots Weekly Virtual Concert to Replace Tour

    WENN

The ‘Unfollow the Rules’ star is staging a weekly album performance on social media as he is unable to go on a tour because of the ongoing global health crisis.
    Sep 20, 2020
AceShowbiz – Rufus Wainwright is planning to close out the year by performing all of his albums side-by-side as part of a new virtual concert initiative.
“The Rufus-Retro-Wainwright-Spective” will launch on 9 October (20) with the singer/songwriter performing side one of his self-titled debut album in its entirety. A week later, he’ll play side two and a week after that he’ll move on to the first side of his “Poses” release.
“Special times need special artistic ideas,” he says. “They also need leadership and unity but we are far from that here in the U.S.. So we as musicians, can give the world our voice, to offer reflection and vision at the same time.”

“I cannot tour my new album, Unfollow the Rules, which is why I have had ample time to reflect. I consider Unfollow the Rules a bookend to my first album – both were recorded and produced in Los Angeles, in a lot of the same studios and with a lot of the same session musicians. I consider Unfollow the Rules my first album of maturity as a songwriter, following in the footsteps of the greats a lot of them have left us already or will very soon.”
“So, it’s time to look back to look forward. I’m excited for fans to join me on my trip into the past and on this virtual world tour of my entire studio album catalogue.”
Wainwright will play a side from his first four albums every week for the eight weeks leading to the end of November (20), and then announce a new schedule for December.
He recently debuted his new album by staging a virtual listening party for fans, during which he performed the tracks from “Unfollow the Rules”.

  • Rufus Wainwright Previews New Album at Paramour Mansion Livestream

The ‘Rules and Regulations’ singer is giving his fans a sneak peek into his upcoming studio album at a livestream concert taking place at Paramour’s ballroom in Los Angeles.
    Jun 28, 2020
AceShowbiz – Singer/songwriter Rufus Wainwright will preview his new album, “Unfollow the Rules”, by performing it in its entirety during a livestream concert on Saturday, June 27, 2020.
The “Cigarettes & Chocolate” singer will take over Paramour Mansion’s ballroom in Los Angeles for the special virtual concert, accompanied by piano, guitar and a string section.
The livestream will premiere on the All Arts’ Facebook page from 2 P.M. ET.

“The Paramour Session will show a completely different side of Unfollow the Rules,” Wainwright said in a statement. “Acoustic, stripped back, sparser, but in a Rufus Wainwrightian sense of course.”
“Good songs can survive in many different environments. I want my fans to have an opportunity to hear the music live when the album comes out. The only way we can do this responsibly during these times is with acoustic instruments, and fewer musicians in a large space, where everyone can be six feet or more apart, with a super small crew.”
“Rather than attempting to imitate the sound of the album, I think it’s both more responsible and more creatively interesting to try something new. There are no drums, no effects, no bass, no horns, no flutes, no back-up vocals – only strings that are bowed, picked, hammered, or strummed, and my voice. Let’s hope less is more. Of course, it helps that we are filming and livestreaming this from the gorgeous ballroom of the Paramour Estate.”
Wainwright will release “Unfollow the Rules” on July 10, 2020.
