'The Falcon and the Winter Soldier' Claims Title of Disney Plus' Most-Watched Series Premiere

    Disney+

Debuting on March 19, the Anthony Mackie and Sebastian Stan-starring show is said to have drawn more viewers over the weekend than ‘WandaVision’ and ‘The Mandalorian’.

    Mar 23, 2021

    AceShowbiz –
“The Falcon and the Winter Soldier” has broken Disney+ records to become the streaming service’s most-watched series premiere.

The Marvel spin-off, starring Anthony Mackie and Sebastian Stan, debuted on Friday, March 19 and drew more viewers over the weekend than hits “WandaVision” and the two seasons of “The Mandalorian”.

The site’s bosses have not released specific viewing figures, but confirm the premiere of “The Falcon and the Winter Soldier” is bigger than that of “Wandavision”, which wrapped its first season earlier this month (March 2021).

Disney bosses have more Marvel content planned for the streamer – “Loki” will drop in June, while “Hawkeye” and “Ms. Marvel” is expected to debut later in 2021.

In addition to Mackie and Stan, “The Falcon and the Winter Soldier” also has Emily VanCamp, Wyatt Russell, Noah Mills, Carl Lumbly and Daniel Bruhl in its cast ensemble. Both Mackie and Stan reprise their roles as Sam Wilson a.k.a. Falcon and Bucky Barnes a.k.a. Winter Soldier respectively.

Directed by Kari Skogland, this MCU series was written by Malcolm Spellman. Its first episode picks up six months after the events in “Avengers: Endgame” that saw Captain America handing his shield to Wilson.

When promoting the series, Mackie was asked about becoming Marvel’s most prominent Black superhero in the wake of Chadwick Boseman’s passing. “I never thought about the passing of Chadwick being an opportunity for Sam Wilson,” he told The Guardian.

“Chad and I had a lot in common, being from the south and being classically trained from the theater,” he elaborated. “I think that’s why we grew so much as individuals, because there was an understanding. So, I would like to keep up his legacy as an individual human being and as a man, more than keeping up his legacy as Black Panther.”

Sebastian Stan: Having Black Captain America Is 'Incredibly Powerful Symbol'

    Disney Plus

The Winter Soldier depicter explains why his superhero series with Anthony Mackie, ‘The Falcon and the Winter Soldier’, is Marvel’s most relevant show yet.

    Mar 21, 2021

    AceShowbiz –
Sebastian Stan believes “The Falcon and the Winter Soldier” is Marvel’s “most relevant show yet.”

The actor, 38, appears in the forthcoming Disney+ show as Bucky Barnes/Winter Soldier and, speaking to GQ Hype, he admitted he had to “find his (character’s) voice” to get into the role.

Sharing his concerns about having “longer scenes” and “a lot more dialogue” between himself and co-star Anthony Mackie’s Sam Wilson, Stan explained, “Well, in a way it’s the bit that worried me the most. Not as an actor, per se, but as a fan of the character.”

“Winter Soldier and Falcon have worked together best when they’ve had little to say to one another. We’re good at quips. So, now, what are they going to say to one another?”

“For this show, I had to find his voice, in all senses, and do it in a way that was timely to what is going on in 2021.”

He continued, “Look, you can’t do a show that explores the title of Captain America without touching on some of the stuff we have seen on the news. In fact, I would argue this is Marvel’s most relevant show yet.”

“A Black Captain America is an incredibly powerful symbol, for all those reasons we were discussing, but also he was the right man from a character standpoint (to) take the shield, regardless of race.”

“Bucky wouldn’t be emotionally intelligent enough or mentally stable enough to be able to handle such huge shoes. His moral compass is somewhat questionable too.”

Stan first appeared as Bucky in “Captain America: The First Avenger” in 2011 but appeared to die at the end of the film. However, in “Captain America: The Winter Soldier”, it was revealed Bucky had survived and he went on to appear in various instalments of the Marvel Cinematic Universe.

Anthony Mackie Feared 'Falcon' TV Series Wouldn't Be as Good as Marvel Movies

    Disney+

The Sam Wilson depicter admits he was initially reluctant to take on ‘The Falcon and the Winter Soldier’ for fear that the quality ‘would be taken down for television.’

    Feb 28, 2021
AceShowbiz – Anthony Mackie was apprehensive about starring in forthcoming Disney+ series “The Falcon and the Winter Soldier”.
The 42-year-old actor – who plays Sam Wilson / Falcon in the Marvel Cinematic Universe television series, which is coming to Disney+ next month (Mar21), admits he was initially fearful about taking on the project.
Revealing he wasn’t sure about taking part in the Marvel series, Mackie shared, “To be honest, I’ve had trepidation from the beginning. I was really afraid of the idea. Working on so many Marvel projects, and seeing the end result and the effect that they have on people, I was afraid that the quality of the production would be taken down for television.”
“I was afraid that you can’t do things on television you can do in theatres. Seeing people’s reactions to Infinity War and Endgame in the theatres, and hearing the connection that the audience members have with these characters … that’s every actor’s dream, to affect an audience and expose them to a different way of looking at culture and the world around us.”

“I was really afraid that I wouldn’t have that opportunity to step out on that ledge like the actors before me had.”
And Anthony heaped praise on the series’ director Kari Skogland and creator Malcolm Spellman.
Speaking to the March issue of SFX magazine, he added, “But once we talked, and once they brought on Malcolm and Kari, I knew it was going to be something different.”
“Kari is a phenomenal leader and Malcolm is an amazing writer. And Kevin Feige promised me that it wasn’t going to be different. He’s not going to tarnish the Marvel brand by trying to just blow out as much content as he could. And I trusted him on that.”
“They haven’t let me down yet, so I just went along for the ride on faith of their past work. And I was really pleasantly surprised by how great everything turned out.”

One of the posts saw the stunt team getting on a plane, while another post featured them having fun while strolling around Prague.
MsLizzieHill on Twitter reposted them Sunday, October 4 and wrote in the caption, “I read an article the other day saying they’re ‘rumored’ to be back in Prague…. it’s not a rumor. Falcon and Winter Soldier cast and crew ARE together in Prague.”

The Captain America spin-off was originally scheduled to debut on the Disney streaming site summer this year but it now has been pushed back indefinitely.
    Jul 18, 2020

'The Falcon And The Winter Soldier', 'Loki' Among Marvel Shows to Halt Production Due to Coronavirus

    Walt Disney Pictures

Earlier this week, the Sebastian Stan-starring show was put on delay, where it is filming in Eastern Europe, and similar precautions have been put in place on other shows.
    Mar 16, 2020
AceShowbiz – Bosses at Marvel have decided to pause production on “The Falcon And The Winter Soldier”, “Loki”, and “WandaVision” due to the coronavirus pandemic.
Earlier this week, “The Falcon and the Winter Soldier” was put on delay, where it is filming in Eastern Europe, and similar precautions have been put in place on other shows, which will air exclusively on the Disney+ streaming service, reported Variety.
Disney has also paused production on all of its live-action movies, including the Marvel film “Shang-Chi” and “The Legend of the Ten Rings”, and has made the decision to release various flicks on home entertainment platforms ahead of schedule to encourage fans to self-isolate amid the health crisis.
On Friday (19Mar20), it was announced that “Frozen II” will be added to the streaming service Disney+ this weekend, three months earlier than planned, to provide “families with some fun and joy during this challenging period”.
The most recent “Star Wars” movie, “The Rise of Skywalker”, has also been released earlier than planned, likely due to the pandemic.
It comes as various TV shows and movie productions have been halted due to the Covid-19 situation, with Robert Pattinson’s “The Batman” among the latest films to shut down in London.
Production was due to move to Liverpool, but the move is being put on hold amid the shut down, with representatives from Warner Bros. telling The Hollywood Reporter: “Warner Bros. Pictures feature production of The Batman will hiatus filming for two weeks beginning today. The studio will continue to monitor the situation closely.”
Work on various Universal productions, including Chris Pratt’s “Jurassic World: Dominion”, has also been halted, while TV shows including “The Ellen DeGeneres Show”, “The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon”, “Late Night with Seth Meyers”, and “The Wendy Williams Show” have been axed.
