Tom Cruise's Outer Space-Shot Movie Finds Its Director in Doug Liman

    WENN

The ambitious film project, which is masterminded by Elon Musk with his SpaceX partners and officials at NASA, has had its first draft of the screenplay written by the ‘Edge of Tomorrow’ helmer.
    May 27, 2020
AceShowbiz – Filmmaker Doug Liman is taking a leap of faith with Tom Cruise and Elon Musk by signing up to make movie history with a shoot in space.
Liman, who directed Cruise in “American Made” and “Edge of Tomorrow”, will accompany the action man on the out-of-this-world action adventure, which Musk is masterminding with his SpaceX partners and officials at NASA.
The director has written the first draft of the screenplay and he will produce along with Cruise, according to Deadline.
More information about the ambitious project will be available in the coming days following the launch of Musk’s two-man SpaceX Falcon 9 rocket, which will put America back into space for the first time in almost a decade, on Wednesday, May 27.
Cruise has work to finish before he can get started on the Musk project – he and director Christopher McQuarrie are keen to get back to work on the seventh “Mission: Impossible” movie after the coronavirus pandemic shut down filming just before it was scheduled to start in March (20).
As a result of the delay, Nicholas Hoult has been forced to exit the blockbuster and last week Esai Morales was hired as the film’s villain.

Tom Cruise Teaming Up With Elon Musk and NASA to Film in Space

    WENN/AEDT

NASA’s administrator confirms the ‘Mission: Impossible’ actor is having discussions about shooting a film at the International Space Station with Musk’s SpaceX.
    May 6, 2020
AceShowbiz – Tom Cruise is taking a space-themed movie to the next level by shooting an upcoming film in outer space. The “Jack Reacher” star is teaming up with SpaceX, the rocket company started by Elon Musk, and the National Aeronautics and Space Administration (NASA) to film the feature film project at the International Space Station.
NASA’s administrator Jim Bridenstine confirmed on Tuesday, May 5 that there have been discussions with the 57-year-old Hollywood star about filming in space. The agency, however, refused to divulge more details. “Not at this time,” Matthew Rydin, the press secretary for Mr. Bridenstine, wrote in an email. “We will say more about the project at the appropriate time.”
Deadline first reported the news about Cruise’s space-themed movie, which will be the first narrative feature film to be shot in outer space. The site said that it would be an action-adventure film, but not part of the “Mission: Impossible” film series that the actor has starred in since 1996.
It’s also noted that the project is still in its early stages and no movie studio is attached just yet.
Cruise is no stranger to taking risks to film dangerous stunts in his action films on his own. In 2011’s “Mission: Impossible – Ghost Protocol”, he scaled the Burj Khalifa, the tallest building in the world which is located in Dubai, and executed stunts 123 floors up. He hung from the side of a jet plane during takeoff in 2015’s “Mission: Impossible – Rogue Nation”. During the filming of “Mission: Impossible – Fallout”, he broke his ankle while leaping from one rooftop to another, forcing the production to take a break. He also hung from a helicopter in the 2018 film.
The actor, who reprises his role as Pete “Maverick” Mitchell in “Top Gun: Maverick”, is also a licensed pilot as his co-star Glen Powell recently recalled seeing Cruise flying his P-51 Mustang during the filming of the “Top Gun” sequel. “After wrapping a shooting day, Tom would rocket off into the sunset in his P-51,” the “Scream Queens” alum shared, which he said inspired him to get his own flying license.

Report: Tom Cruise Trying to Get Meghan Markle Back on Big Screen in His Future Film

    WENN

Words on the street are the ‘Top Gun: Maverick’ is eager to work with the Duchess of Sussex when she officially steps down as a British royal and is trying to recruit her for ‘one of his next’ films.
    Mar 25, 2020
AceShowbiz – Meghan Markle may make her big screen return with Tom Cruise after she officially steps down as a British royal at the end of the March. Rumor mill on the Internet has been speculating about the Duchess of Sussex’s possible comeback to show business and the big action star is reportedly eager to recruit the “Suits” alum for one of his next movies.
An alleged tipster quoted in various reports says, “If anyone can get Meghan back on a film set, it’s Tom. And what better way to get back on the big screen than starring opposite one of Hollywood’s biggest stars.” While details about the upcoming project are not available, the source says Tom wants to cast Meghan in “one of his next” films.
The news, however, should be taken with a grain of salt since it’s not clear where the story originated from.
Meghan’s last acting credit was a regular role on “Suits”, on which she starred as Rachel Zane since the first season in 2011 until her exit in 2018, prior to marrying Prince Harry in May of the same year. Earlier this year, reports surfaced that her husband Harry helped her score a new voiceover deal at Disney.
The couple met the company CEO Bob Iger back in July 2019 at the London premiere of “The Lion King”. In a video taken from their encounter at the event, Harry can be heard promoting the former actress’ talents to Bob.
In the clip which circulated online, the 35-year-old prince seemingly said, “You know she does voiceovers?” Bob responded, “Oh really?” Harry remarked, “Did you know that? You seem surprised.” He then gestured towards Meghan, who was deep in conversation with Beyonce Knowles and Jay-Z, and added, “She’s really interested.” Bob appeared to welcome the idea as he replied, “Sure. We’d love to try.”

Dougray Scott Claims Tom Cruise Cost Him Chance to Star as Wolverine

    WENN/FayesVision/Ivan Nikolov

Revealing how he lost the mutant part to Hugh Jackman, the ‘Mission: Impossible 2’ actor spills that his ‘very powerful’ co-star insisted that he had to stay and finish filming their action film.
    Mar 9, 2020
AceShowbiz – Actor Dougray Scott has blamed Tom Cruise for not letting him play Wolverine in the “X-Men” franchise films.
Dougray lost out on the mutant part to Hugh Jackman while filming “Mission: Impossible 2”, which went over its shooting schedule.
“Tom Cruise didn’t let me do it,” he told the Daily Telegraph, noting Cruise was pressed to complete the action movie. “We were doing Mission Impossible and he was like, ‘You’ve got to stay and finish the film’ and I said I will, but I’ll go and do that as well. For whatever reason he said I couldn’t.”
“He was a very powerful guy. Other people were doing everything to make it work.”
However, Dougray doesn’t harbour any ill will and is impressed by how Jackman played the Wolverine character.
“I love what Hugh did with it. He’s a lovely guy.”
