Report: Matt Reeves' 'The Batman' Sequel to Introduce a New Joker

According to an industry insider, the director plans to recast the role and feature the new incarnation of the supervillain in the second and third movies.

AceShowbiz – Matt Reeves’ “The Batman” sequel(s) may feature a new, yet familiar face. Words on the street are the filmmaker is going to include the famous DC Comics villain, the Joker, in his Batman trilogy, with a new actor taking on the role.

According to The Direct, its contributing insider Daniel Richtman reveals that Reeves plans to feature the new incarnation of Joker in the second and third movies as one of the films’ multiple villains. The new Joker will also be referenced in the upcoming “The Batman”, though he likely won’t appear in the film.

The site also notes that casting for the role has not begun yet.

Previously, Robert Pattinson, who is cast as the Caped Crusader in Reeves’ movie, sparked a speculation of a possible crossover with Joaquin Phoenix‘s Joker following his interview with Variety in 2019. At the time, Variety New York bureau chief Ramin Setoodeh wrote, “At one point in our conversation, [Pattinson] offers a mundane comment about Joaquin Phoenix, who stars in Joker (a movie he hasn’t seen yet), before asking to retract it.”

” ‘Oh s**t,’ he says, adding that he’s not accustomed to thinking about spoilers,” Setoodeh recalled. The British actor went on to tell Setoodeh, “I definitely should not say that. I’m so used to pretty art-house movies, where you can watch the movie three times and still not know what it’s about.”

It’s not clear what spoiler that he might have dropped, but people started speculating about the possible crossover.

Meanwhile, another report by We Got This Covered last April mentioned that the sequel to Reeves’ movie would feature its version of the Joker (or Jokers) taking center stage, along with the beginnings of a full-on love story between Batman and Catwoman, who will be portrayed by Zoe Kravitz in the movie.

The movie production has been halted due to the coronavirus outbreak. The pic has been scheduled for a June 25, 2021 launch. It’s currently unknown if the coronavirus pandemic will affect the release date.
