Tragically, seven hours later, Thomas confirmed Matthew had died with a post that simply read “Matthew’s gone.”

Paying his tribute, his friend Rod Campbell-Taylor wrote about his pal who was also a successful lawyer: “When Matthew found out he had what appeared to be Covid-19, his first concern was that he might have been the ‘Trojan horse’ spreading the infection to colleagues.

“Even after being admitted to hospital Matthew continued to send WhatsApp messages about his own and other people’s cases, as well as offerings of support to a staff member whose mother was also in hospital, right up to being intubated.

“Matthew’s last message to colleagues was about a case he had been working up for the previous six months on behalf of a severely disabled client, who like all his clients was bereft to learn he was in intensive care.

“Tragically, Matthew’s brother and sole sibling, Simon Seligman, died (from causes unrelated to Coronavirus) while Matthew was already struggling with the symptoms of Covid-19.

“Matthew had spent the previous six months providing care and support to his brother, while he moved with ever increasing frequency between home and hospital (where it appears likely he contracted the virus).”
