Ant and Dec's Saturday Night Takeaway fans fume as audio blunder 'ruins' debut

Ant and Dec’s Saturday Night Takeaway got off to a cracking start this weekend, but one technical glitch had certain viewers complaining.

Due to coronavirus restrictions, hosts Ant McPartlin and Declan Donnelly were unable to welcome the usual live audience to the studio.

Instead, hundreds of British families tuned in from their homes, appearing via webcam on an enormous digital screen.

Ant and Dec raced over to chat with the virtual audience, trying their best to integrate the traditional SNT banter with the crowd.

Waving at the crowd, Dec cheered: “Hello there, bring them up a bit bigger!”

Unfortunately, the audience created crackling feedback on the show, and the noise drove some viewers to complain to ITV.

Taking to their keyboards, SNT fans fumed the feedback was spoiling the series launch, as they pleaded with the show’s technicians to fix the blunder.

One said: “@ITV please can we get rid of the interfering webcam noise on #SaturdayNightTakeaway we were looking forward to the show but it’s a horrible noise! Thanks!”

“Do something about feedback,” begged a second.

And a third chimed: “Please mute the audience, hurting my large ears.”

The presenting duo was thrilled to have a virtual audience in the studio

“That sound is unbearable,” griped a fourth.

Sound issues aside, the first episode of the series was a hit with viewers, as Ant and Dec were joined by a gaggle of celeb guests on the show.

Fleur East hosted the competition segment, inviting one lucky contestant to win a grand prize in their glittering “rainbow” themed giveaway.

The winner, who received an all-expenses-paid holiday, revealed he had got engaged hours previously, making the win all the more special.

Later, Jamie and Harry Redknapp appeared on the show, as they reflected on a prank they played which saw the father and son duo interview potential employees.
