GMB's Richard Madeley says Judy is 'losing weight and sleep' over son's wedding

Richard Madeley and his wife Judy Finnegan are going through a challenging time, the presenter has revealed, as their son’s wedding plans are up in the air.

The TV personality, 65, appeared alongside Susanna Reid on Monday’s Good Morning Britain, where the conversation turned to the wedding industry.

Richard confessed his wife was losing weight and sleep over the strain of their son’s wedding plans, as the changing lockdown restrictions might force him to cancel his special day.

On Monday evening, Prime Minister Boris Johnson will make an announcement, sharing the government’s decision on the lifting of lockdown restrictions on June 21.

There has been great speculation the lockdown will be suspended by several weeks, meaning those who planned to walk down the aisle in June and July are currently in limbo.

Addressing the uncertainty around weddings, Richard and Susanna were joined on the show by a couple who hope to marry later this month, as well as a wedding planner.

“Listen Sam and Steve, I’ve got skin in the game as well, as has my wife,” Richard said, speaking to the engaged couple in the studio.

“She’s losing weight over this and losing sleep over this, I know exactly what you’re going through. And you have my total sympathy.

“Like you, I’ll be watching the news at six o’clock tonight with my heart in my mouth.”

The changing restrictions have also taken their toll on their son, with Richard revealing: “The effect on my son and his wife to be has been terrible really, it’s really screwed them up.”

“My two they know that it’s not the end of the world,” Richard added, putting things in perspective, before admitting “it’s incredibly stressful” for them.

The couple suffered another blow when their honeymoon plans were thrown into turmoil, as Portugal moved from green to amber in the government’s travel list.

“My son is due to get married on the 26th, because they cancelled it last year,” he told co-host Charlotte Hawkins earlier this month.

“After the show when we were predicting that Portugal was going to move off the green list and go onto the amber, I came off air and my son called me and said, ‘Guess where we booked for our honeymoon.'”

After marrying in 1986, Richard and Judy welcomed two children together – their son Jack Christopher, and writer and fitness whizz Chloe Madeley, who is married to rugby star James Haskell.

The GMB star is also a step-father to Judy’s twin sons, Dan and Tom, who were born from her first marriage in the seventies.

Good Morning Britain airs on weekdays at 6am on ITV.
