Kate Garraway returns to Instagram as she shares update on Derek's health battle

Kate Garraway returned to Instagram on Wednesday to update fans on how she’s been doing, as she explained her absence from the social media site.

Posting a lengthy message, the Good Morning Britain host explained that husband Derek Draper’s “journey is far from over”.

She said: “Hello everyone – I’ve not been on here for a while as I’ve been taking time to gather myself and focus like everyone else on getting through this latest lockdown. The pandemic is far from over and so is Derek’s journey but I have decided to share our story and what’s helping to keep me going, as we all try to work out what our new futures will look like.”

She then went on to share that she has released a new book, detailing what she’s been going through in recent times.

Kate continued: “I am really hoping that it will help you with all that you are going through. You can pre-order your copy of The Power of Hope from Amazon.”

Derek Draper, 53, is still in hospital after Covid-19 made him lose eight stone, develop diabetes and suffer holes in his lungs and heart.

Mum-of-two Kate, 53, said: “I hope to be able to reach out to others who are suffering.”

Kate, who had her first Christmas without Derek present in 2020, recently opened up about the struggles of homeschooling her children without her husband around to help.

Speaking on Good Morning Britain last week, she shared: “It’s Friday and I think its a collective sigh of relief to anybody who’s locked int the torture of homeschooling.

“I think first time round, I was somewhat distracted at the time, some people found it quite nice.

“The sun was shining, they thought great time with the children and see what those teachers are doing and quickly realised how brilliantly teachers are.

“This time around it’s a real struggle isn’t it?”

Kate’s co-host and close friend Ben Shephard added: “I think it’s really hard because of the weather particularly and I think, second time round and the kids are itching just to get back to school.”

Kate continued: “They just want to see the other kids don’t they and it feels like here we go again.”
