Simon Cowell says he'll be happy if son Eric follows in his footsteps 'behind the camera'

Simon Cowell has revealed he’ll be happy if his son Eric follows in his footsteps but ‘stays behind the camera’.

During an exclusive interview with the Daily Star at Together For Short Lives, the TV and music mogul said he wants his seven-year-old son to become the next him.

Currently, Simon is stepping back from TV as he revealed he wants to spend more time with his family.

When asked if he would like Eric to go into showbiz Simon was encouraging.

He said: “I think so. As long as he stays behind the camera I’ll be happy.”

After coming to TV prominence in 2001 as a judge on Pop Idol, Simon has enough knowledge and experience from the industry to pass onto Eric who he admits is his double.

Simon’s partner Lauren Silverman was quick to jump in to discuss their son after being asked if he would be a natural in front of the camera.

She added: “He definitely has his dad’s personality that’s for sure.”

Simon replied: “Sweetness and niceness from me…”

Lauren jokingly said: “And his good looks from me.”

Simon was quick to agree with his partner saying: “Yeah exactly.”

After two decades as one of the biggest faces on British and American TV, Simon is scaling back his on-screen roles.

The 62-year-old has been head judge on X Factor and Britain’s Got Talent for 17 years and has recently revealed he will be replaced by Take That star Gary Barlow for his new series Walk The Line.

The star is still executive producer of his new show and will be heavily involved behind the scenes.

Simon said: “This is a situation where I have decided it is right for me to focus on my role as the Creator and Producer as we build up to the hugely exciting launch.

“Gary’s musical pedigree is second to none – and we have known each other a long time now – so I am delighted he is picking up the baton for me for the first series of Walk The Line. I know he will do a fantastic job.”

The former Take That frontman previously worked with Simon on the X Factor.
