BBC Breakfast viewers left fuming as Dan Walker is replaced in major shake-up

BBC Breakfast viewers were left unimpressed as fan favourite presenter Dan Walker was missing from the red sofa.

He was replaced by temporary presenter Jon Kay in a major presenting shake-up on Wednesday (March 9).

Dan usually presents the show alongside his co-star Sally Nugent from Monday to Wednesday, before Naga Munchetty and Charlie Stayt take over for the rest of the week.

During his stint on Strictly Come Dancing, it made sense for him to be missing on certain days, as he was busy with rehearsals alongside his professional dance partner Nadiya Bychkova.

This time, however, he hasn’t yet offered an explanation on social media.

But this week Dan was nowhere to be found – leaving his loyal followers fuming.

Taking to Twitter, one fan penned: “Where is Dan Walker this morning?? Most weeks he’s only doing 2 days!! Why?? Yet another show on BBC where there is no continuity. It’s a shambles.”

“Where’s Dan???” another fan wailed.

However, others were enjoying Jon’s presenting style, as someone else posted: “Jon Kay is excellent!”

“Good pressing interview from Jon Kay,” another echoed of a segment with Transport Secretary Grant Shapps.

Dan’s last social media post concerning the show came on Tuesday morning, as he explained what viewers could expect from the episode concerning the Russian invasion of Ukraine.

Dan wrote: “Thanks for being with us on #BBCBreakfast this morning. We know it’s a tough watch at the moment but we are trying to bring you the latest from #Ukraine.

“We’ll continue to speak to our correspondents and Ukrainians about what they are facing at the moment.”

Dan was also forced to deny a rumour that he was wearing jeggings while on the couch – with one fan wondering: “Is @mrdanwalker wearing jeggings this morning on @BBCBreakfast?”

Dan quickly snapped back: “No he isn’t #RegulationTrousers,” with a cry-laughing emoji.

And away from the Breakfast set, Dan also has a rather different project going on with his co-star Sally, as they prepare to compete in a Strictly charity ball in honour of Rob Burrow MBE.

The former rugby player has motor neurone disease, and is dedicated to raising money and awareness for the condition.

Sally and Dan will be dancing at the ball, while Strictly star Dan also acts as a judge for the competition.

BBC Breakfast airs daily from 6am on BBC One.
