James Corden stops Googling himself after restaurant row as he 'can't handle abuse'

James Corden says he’s stopped Googling himself as he can’t stomach the abuse.

The under-fire actor, 44, has also doubled down on his much-mocked excuse he was rude to restaurant staff as he was defending his wife Jules from a “serious” egg white allergy – and says he’s now sick of talking about eggs.

James moaned about the wave of hate he’s faced with online, especially after his ‘Egg-gate’ row: “I’ve just stopped reading it. I just won’t do it.

“I don’t Google myself, I don’t read anything about myself. I can remember when Keira Knightley was talking about the things that people used to write about her, and then she just realised, ‘Oh. I don’t have to read this. It’s nothing to do with me. I’ll just concentrate on the work’.”

James also said he is puzzled about his online trolls as he thinks the public love him all over the world.

He added: “It’s weird, because I walk around London, New York, LA, and people are lovely, you know? It’s a f*****g kick… people are so nice about what I do.

“I was cycling around on a Boris bike yesterday, from Soho to the South Bank, and I was cycling through this filter of just hearing my name, over and over – people shouting out, thumbs up. Genuinely and honestly, I mainly only ever get positive stuff.”

James was branded a “tiny cretin of a man” and an “a**hole” by restaurateur Keith McNally, 71, who banned him from his Balthazar eaterie for allegedly ranting at staff over a mix-up with an egg-yolk omelette.

Brands including Ryanair cashed in by also slapping bans on the chat show host, with millions of Google hits for ‘James Corden hate’ now online.

An interviewer who spoke to James for a Saturday newspaper chat said he texted them to bleat: “It’s been the most surreal moment. I mean, it’s so odd.

“I never screamed at anyone, I didn’t shout, didn’t call anyone a name or swear or use derogatory language. How is it remotely a thing? And that be OK? And now it’s fact, and that’s that. When that person who posted the story wasn’t even there. Just so odd.”

He added in the interview: “I have never talked about eggs this much… people keep telling me, ‘This is the world we live in!’ And I don’t know if that’s right. I think it’s a world we’re actively creating, engaging in and encouraging. It’s scary. Really scary.”

“And you know, the reason I had to send the omelette back is because Jules is allergic to egg white. That’s why we’d ordered an egg-yolk omelette. Her actual words were, ‘But don’t worry if you can’t manage it.’”

James first made the allergy claim in an apology on his The Late Late Show on Monday.

But staff at Balthazar branded the excuse “bulls***t” and dietician Reema Patel said is “impossible” to cook an omelette without egg white as it is impossible to completely separate it from egg yolk.

She added that a person who is allergic to eggs would be strongly advised to steer clear of all egg products, including omelettes.
