Loose Women's Nadia and husband overjoyed as they're shortlisted for Oscar nomination

Loose Women’s Nadia Sawalha and her husband Mark Adderley have the full backing of her ITV colleagues after their short film has been nominated for the Oscars shortlist.

The telly presenter and actress, 57, and her husband Mark, recently produced their film The Gangbuster, set in South London with Mark writing the movie and Nadia working as the producer.

The film centres around Oscar, 11, who is on a mission to join a gang but he faces one major obstacle.

Speaking exclusively to the Daily Star, Mark said: “We’re shortlisted at the moment, we’re down to the last 100 so we’re going to find out on the 21st if we get any further.”

While Nadia added: “When we first heard, we were watching Married At First Sight UK and he said it’s from The Academy and our film had been shortlisted.

“Last week, we got the email to say ‘Your film has now been released to all the Academy members’ we were like ‘Oh my God, they’re all watching it now’, so Will Smith, you’re watching our little film now from South London.”

“It’s a very little film with a big heart, it’s got two none, professional actors, in,” gushed Mark before adding: “That presented challenges, directing two kids that never acted before and yet at the same time, the very subject matter of the film was about a young boy trying to make this older boy become his friend.”

Reflecting on what they will do should they land themselves a nomination, Nadia explained: “All the big movie stars have their Oscar campaigns and parties, we’re going to get a rucksack and go out to LA and we’re going to try and gatecrash some of those parties.

“We’re going to film it as a documentary of how we get into these places.”

Discussing her colleagues at Loose Women, Nadia said: “They’ve been so supportive at Loose Women actually, a producer said ‘Oh we’ll definitely have to come out and film a video’, so I think they were really excited about it, they can’t quite believe it and it’s not beyond the realms of possibility, the last one was A Silent Child.

“It was a husband and wife team that won it, she was an actress.”

Nadia Sawalha and Mark Adderley on their nomination for The Academy Oscar Award, for Best Narrative Short Film, ‘The Gangbuster’. The final shortlist of 15 films will be announced on Tuesday, December 21, 2021.
