Kenny Dalglish's daughter warns 'don't take on a Scouse Ma' after Wagatha Christie trial

Sir Kenny Dalglish’s daughter has backed Coleen Rooney following her victory in the ‘Wagatha Christie’ trial.

Rebekah Vardy has lost her High Court libel battle with Wayne Rooney’s wife, in what was one of the most widely-publicised trials this year. Coleen Rooney had begun a sting operation in 2019 and accused Rebekah, wife of Jamie Vardy, of leaking private stories about her to The Sun.

As a result, Rebekah launched a libel case against Coleen, but she lost on Friday, with Mrs Justice Steyn ruling that the defendant’s accusation was ‘substantially true’. Coleen – who met Wayne when they were youngsters – was born in Liverpool and as such she had a Reds legend’s daughter backing her after the ruling was announced.

Lauren Dalglish tweeted out: “When will people learn? Don’t take on a Scouse Ma! #wagatha”, providing a show of support to a fellow Liverpudlian.

Rebekah gave a statement to the press after she lost her legal battle. “It is not the result that I had expected, nor believe was just. I brought this action to vindicate my reputation and am devastated by the judge’s finding… as for the rest of her judgement, she got it wrong and this is something I cannot accept,” she said.

Coleen, meanwhile, said: “I never believed it should have gone to court at such expense in times of hardship for so many people, when the money could have been far better spent helping others.”

In her ruling, the judge concluded that ‘significant parts’ of Rebekah’s evidence were not credible, saying that it ‘was manifestly inconsistent with the contemporaneous documentary evidence, evasive or implausible’.

The judge continued: “It is likely that Ms Vardy deliberately deleted her WhatsApp chat with Ms Watt, and that Ms Watt deliberately dropped her phone in the sea.”

The process of assessing the pair’s legal bills will take some time but costs have been estimated at £3m and Rebekah will have to pay for most of it.
