Dancing on Ice champion Nile Wilson 'hanging up skates' despite winning ITV show

Dancing on Ice star Nile Wilson has revealed he’ll be hanging up his skates despite winning the ITV show.

The Olympic gymnast and his professional partner Olivia Smart were crowned champions on the 2023 series on Sunday (March 12) evening.

They beat off fierce competition from Joey Essex and Vanessa Bauer and The Vivienne and Colin Grafton to lift the prestigious trophy.

However, it appears that Nile isn’t in any rush to get back on the ice in the near future.

Before the final, Nile told Daily Star and other press: “My skates will be hung up in my wardrobe unless Olivia gives me a call and drags me back out.

“I’m so buzzing when I have kids I can take them to the rink but it’s onto the next weird and wonderful thing for me.”

Throughout the competition, Nile wowed viewers with his jaw-dropping jumps and stunning lifts.

But some fans have suggested that judges Ashley Banjo, Oti Mabuse, Jayne Torvill and Christopher Dean didn’t always give him the score he deserved.

Speaking out about his scores from the panel, Nile told Daily Star and other press: “This is something, from the beginning, we’ve never spoke or worried about, it’s just about the process.

“Our focus throughout has been about the process and not the result. Every celebrity is different and at a different level.

“The scores have not been the front and centre of our minds and some weeks we got marked down we knew we didn’t do the routine how we did.

“The judges have seen the routine, we know what’s choreographed and we did make some errors in some weeks.”

He continued: “Last week was the first time we did the routine the best we ever did. Before we’ve done wobbles and tricks and disguised them.

“I know Mission Impossible was a bit of a wobbly one for us where we made errors so when the scores have popped up, I as an athlete have gone ‘yeah, I should have been marked down because I made mistakes’.

“I really wanted to bring something new to the show and the wow factor and impress the audience with my skating.”
