Elizabeth Banks suffers huge Oscars blunder as she trips over twice on stage

Elizabeth Banks suffered a nightmare blunder at The Oscars on Sunday night (March 13) when she tripped over twice on stage.

The Pitch Perfect actress, 49, was presenting the award for visual effects at the 95th Academy Awards, but it wasn’t long before things went badly wrong for the star.

Elizabeth had stepped out on stage with the bear from Cocaine Bear, thanks to the help of a person dressed in a bear suit.

But she stumbled on her trailing black Vivienne Westwood gown on her way to the microphone – and could have hit the deck if she hadn’t managed to stay on her feet.

Banks, the director of new comedy horror flick Cocaine Bear, appeared to be doing a skit which involved her running away from the bear.

It wasn’t the only time she tripped either as she nearly fell to the ground several times, but she didn’t let her trailing dress get the better of her.

And she made light of the blunder as she blamed Cocaine Bear for the trip, telling viewers: “Oh my God. He tripped me.”

She wouldn’t be the first Hunger Games actress to stumble at The Oscars as Jennifer Lawrence famously took a tumble at the 2013 Academy Awards.

And it wasn’t the only problem Banks faced as she suffered a raspy voice which affected her ability to present the award for Best Visual Effects, which went to Avatar: The Way of Water.

She seemed to have lost her voice while reading out the list of nominees and apologised to the room, saying: “Sorry, my voice.”

It wasn’t the only notable Oscars moment as host Jimmy Kimmel made references to Will Smith slapping Chris Rock at last year’s event.

And fans thought Hugh Grant gave a rather awkward interview with NBC’s Ashley Graham on the champagne carpet.
