Love Island star eyes up EastEnders stint with Phil Mitchell in major career U-turn

One Love Island star has decided to swap the sun-soaked ITV villa for the heart of Albert Square as they eye up a major career U-turn.

Loyal fans of Idris Virgo will recognise him from his appearance on the dating show back in 2018 or his recent spell of successful boxing matches against several reality stars in the ring.

The pro boxer is set to take on ex-Geordie Shore star Aaron Chalmers with Misfits Boxing on September 23 but the TV hunk has teased that he may hang up his boxing gloves for good after he confessed he would love to step into the acting world on EastEnders.

In an exclusive interview with Daily Star, the 30-year-old has opened up about his plans for next year away from boxing ring. He explained: “I do want to start acting, I want to get into acting and hopefully get into a small series or a cameo in one of those movies.

“I just love to do it. Come on man, I’ve got a good name, Idris Virgo needs to be out there, it’s destined to be. So I’d love to do a bit of acting next year, I’d love to do a bit of acting.” It was at this point that the star hinted that he would love to star in his favourite soap in the future.

He went on: “I’d love to do a soap, I’m still a big EastEnders fan and Hollyoaks. Either EastEnders or Hollyoaks I’d love to do either one of them.” When asked what sort of character he could embody in the Square, he warned fans that he could become a new baddie.

Idris explained: “I can see myself being the bad person and then turning into the good person, like a police officer or a detective but I like to joke around so even a comedian person. EastEnders, you need to listen, send me my contract. I’d love to work with Phil [Mitchell], Phil and all of his big boys, but we’ll have to see.”

But the former Love Island star hasn’t limited himself to the silver screen and has even set his sights on joining the cast of the Fast and the Furious. He suggested: “I can also see myself being on the big screen acting or being in a movie, so hopefully that will come true.

“I’d love to work with Idris Elba for one, Sylvester Stallone, Tyrese Gibson, basically everyone from the Fast and the Furious 5. Or even on TV shows like Suits or the Vikings, any of those, that would be sick. I was recently told that I could be in the next Rocky film because people say I look like [Adonis] Creed played by Michael B. Jordan,” he hinted.

It comes after the pro boxer claimed that Tommy Fury’s brother Roman hit him during an explosive ringside brawl back in May. Earlier this year, the pair crossed paths when they attended the KSI vs Joe Fournier match.

It didn’t take long before Tommy, Roman and Idris locked horns after the match, with footage later emerging showing the group exchanging harsh words before the dad-of-one stood up and pushed Virgo. Now, in an exclusive chat with Daily Star, the hunk has claimed that Roman hit him during the “scruff”.

The former Love Island star will take to the ring to defend his title against ex-Geordie Shore star Aaron Chalmers in the upcoming Misfits Boxing match on September 23.
